Indian Ocean focus for Kuoni in 2021 as it expands range
- Two new luxury resorts added in the Maldives
- Off the beaten track itineraries in Sri Lanka with addition of South East coast
- New Sail Sri Lanka offers small luxury cruises along the coastline
- Two new resorts in Mauritius in beautiful locations
New handpicked resorts in the Maldives, Mauritius and Sri Lanka are being added to Kuoni’s collection for 2021 as it looks to strengthen its position as the Indian Ocean specialist.
More than 56 per cent of Kuoni’s bookings to date for 2021 are for Indian Ocean destinations, with the Maldives being number one followed by Mauritius and Sri Lanka.
The operator is now aiming to position itself as the original Indian Ocean specialist, with more handpicked resorts, exclusively negotiated offers and expertise to help create bespoke itineraries.
In the Maldives, Kuoni is adding the brand new Kagi Maldives Spa Island, which is the destination’s first dedicated wellness haven, scheduled to open in September this year, with a focus on restorative health, fitness and nourishing menus. This boutique, five star retreat in North Male Atoll has 50 villas all with private pools, with 40 of these being water villas.
Another new addition for the Maldives is the Emerald Maldives Resort & Spa, a cool five star resort which is already open and in operation, but a great new option for families looking for a luxury secluded escape. With spacious pool villas and plenty of activities including bicycles to cycle around the island and plenty of activities for young holidaymakers, it’s geared towards luxury all-inclusive.
In Sri Lanka a brand new sailing option is set to bring something different for the destination. The Ocean Diamond is a brand new luxury boat with 10 spacious cabins offering short cruises along the coast at various points and can be added to bespoke itineraries.
Kuoni is adding two smaller hotels in the less visited areas along the South East coast, a world-class surfing area, enabling people to plan more varied adventures of the island.
The simple boutique retreats of Kottukal Beach House by Jetwing and eco-chic retreat Jetwing Surf are both something quite different for Kuoni, as they have just a handful of rooms but have been chosen to open up itineraries to the unexplored shorelines of the south east region, with its laid-back beach scene.
The relatively undiscovered North of Sri Lanka is also included, with the addition of Jetwing Jaffna, again, opening up more areas of the country which can be added to tailor-made itineraries.
Elsewhere on the island, the Grand Hotel Sri Lanka Nuwara Eliya is a well-established hotel, with an impressive sustainability programme including recycling centre, herb and vegetable gardens and tree-planting programme.
In Mauritius two new resorts join the programme. The Lux Le Morne, next to the famous mountain has dramatic backdrops set on one of Mauritius’ most attractive lagoon-facing spots. This five-star hotel is on the wilder UNESCO-protected south-west side of the island and has a boutique feel, impressive sustainability and activity programme.
The Anantara IKO Beach Resort is also new to the collection and has been chosen for its remote on the border of the Blue Bay Marine Park.
Sheena Paton, senior product and purchasing manager at Kuoni, who, along with her team, visits the Maldives, Mauritius and Sri Lanka every season to inspect new resorts, said: “Bookings for the Indian Ocean, particularly the Maldives are outperforming every other destination we sell around the world, with the Maldives currently accounting for 56 per cent of bookings for 2021. The Maldives has always been our best seller but it’s soaring even further ahead right now.”
“By visiting the destination ourselves on a regular basis, we’re able to spot new hotels, hidden gems which have had a refresh and even sailing ships which we think our customers will love and ensure that we’re the “go-to” company for all things Indian Ocean to suit a wide range of budgets.”
Kuoni continues to work hand-in-hand with its destination partners as borders open to ensure its giving the most up to date advice to customers.
