 Mauritius Family Explorer

Discover Mauritius as a family on our 7-night holiday around Mauritius.

Mauritius sits out in the Indian Ocean, east of Madagascar, but it is easier for families than its far-flung setting suggests. Overnight flights from the UK help with the long journey, the time difference is manageable, and the island’s high hotel standards mean you can often get brilliant space, service, and more family facilities than you might expect for your budget. This holiday gives you two distinct sides of the island: the north for calm lagoon days, offshore-island views and easy resort time, then the southeast for Blue Bay Marine Park, Mahébourg, and a more local feel. Our recommended hotels are all-inclusive, which makes budgeting far easier upfront and leaves you with fewer on-holiday expenses.

Days 1-3

North Mauritius

The north coast is a great place to start in Mauritius, especially with children. After landing in Mauritius, it’s around a 75-minute transfer to Zilwa Attitude, which sits in the quiet coastal village of Calodyne, with views towards five offshore islands. It is an easy first chapter: beach, pool, a little exploring, then back before anyone gets too tired or snack-critical. Zilwa Attitude fits this part of the trip because it feels relaxed, sociable, and full of Mauritian character, with family-friendly touches that make your kids feel genuinely welcome, not just tolerated. Talk to us about your children’s ages; we might point you to the Family Room, which keeps things simple for younger families, while the Family Apartment Sea View gives you more space with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a fabulous outlook. There are some lovely child-friendly extras at Zilwa Attitude too, including a kids’ cinema night and a treasure hunt on Grand Zil private island.

Days 4-8

South East Mauritius

The southeast gives the second half of the holiday a different feel. You’ll travel back toward the airport, allowing you to make the most of your last day when it rolls around. As you arrive in Mahébourg and Blue Bay, Mauritius becomes breezier, quieter and more connected to everyday island life, but the sea is still centre stage. Look out for Blue Bay Marine Park, a real family win where children can experience the underwater world through snorkelling or a glass-bottom boat. Preskil Island Resort works well for families in both style and setting. Days can stay nicely low-effort, with pools, beach time, watersports, snorkelling and boat trips all easy to build around different ages and energy levels. There’s a kids’ club for 3- to 12-year-olds, a spa when grown-ups need some me-time, and a good choice of restaurants and bars, so you’re not locked into the same routine every day. We can help you choose the right family room (because ages, bedtimes, and space all matter), but the bigger reason Preskil works is that it makes the southeast simple, varied and family-friendly.
