Dertour Foundation

Travel has the power to create lasting, positive change – for people, places and nature.

That’s why we’re actively involved with DERTOUR Foundation UK, a registered charity created by our parent company, DERTOUR Group.

The Foundation provides funding and works with trusted partners on education, equality and nature conservation initiatives worldwide, ensuring tourism benefits local communities and their surroundings long after your holiday ends.

Projects

The DERTOUR Foundation was set up by our parent company in 2015 and has supported 97 projects in 28 countries across five continents.

All the projects we support have either a people, conservation or animal welfare focus. But it’s more than just choosing a worthy cause, it’s about supporting projects that empower local communities to help themselves.

  • When you donate to the DERTOUR Foundation UK, your contribution goes directly to initiatives that make a measurable difference.
  • These programmes are carefully chosen to focus on the areas of greatest need and deliver long‑lasting global impact.

Connecting people and reefs in the Maldives

The Maldives' coral reefs face increasing pressure from climate change and local stressors. Working with the Oceancy and Diamonds Athuruga Resort, the Foundation helps train local youth in reef restoration and environmental care. The programme combines education, practical restoration work and scholarships, enabling local communities to protect these vital marine ecosytems.

Cheetah conservation in Kruger National Park

There are now fewer than 7,000 cheetahs left in the wild worldwide. Kruger National Park is one of their most important refuges, but even here their survival is increasingly uncertain. Reliable data on their numbers, habitats and breeding areas is lacking, so the DERTOUR Foundation has partnered with the Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT) to establish a long-term data set on the cheetah population in the Greater Kruger region. This knowledge will lay the groundwork for effective future conservation.

Mangrove Conservation in Sri Lanka

Healthy mangroves are crucial for Sri Lanka’s coastal regions, storing carbon, protecting shorelines and supporting wildlife. The DERTOUR Foundation works with the Wildlife and Ocean Resource Conservation team to replant mangroves in the Koggala Lagoon, with 15,000 trees planted so far, offsetting 6,000 tonnes of CO₂. The project also provides local jobs and offers low‑impact tourism experiences, including non‑motorised catamaran trips.

The Zanzibar Bridge Project

The Zanzibar Bridge project gives women aged 18–25 living in extreme poverty access to high-quality training and education for careers in tourism and hospitality. Through its partnership with the More Than A Drop Foundation, the DERTOUR Foundation is supporting the expansion of the school in Kizimkazi. Two new programmes in hotel management and entrepreneurship launch in 2026, creating even greater opportunities for women to build independent lives with dignity.

People-Focused Initiatives

We provide vocational training, entrepreneurship support, and community programs, creating lasting change.

Conservation

Through reforestation initiatives and community education programs, we empower local stewards to safeguard these irreplaceable natural habitats.

Animal Welfare

We support wildlife sanctuaries and rescue initiatives that provide a safe haven for vulnerable species.
