Day 1: Delhi to Jaipur Board the opulent Maharajas’ Express this afternoon. Late in the evening the train departs for Jaipur.
Day 2: Jaipur Upon arrival in the ‘Pink City’ of Jaipur, visit the Amber Fort. Later you can join an optional visit to the City Palace Complex and Jantar Mantar, or a golf or spa visit.
Day 3: Ranthambore & Fatehpur Sikri Arrive into Sawai Madhopur, the gateway to Ranthambore National Park, one of India’s most famous national parks and a prime location to spot the magnificent Bengal tiger. Enjoy a morning game drive in the park, tracking tigers and other wildlife. Later arrive in the abandoned Mughal city of Fatehpur Sikri.
Day 4: Agra & Gwalior Arrive in Agra and enjoy an early morning visit to the Taj Mahal, followed by a Champagne breakfast. Continue on to Gwalior and take a tour of the 8th-Century hilltop Gwalior Fort, the Saas Bahu Temple, the Jain Cave sculptures and the Jai Palace Museum where you will be served high tea.
Day 5: Orchha & Khajuraho Journey south to Orchha, a charming medieval town set on the banks of the Betwa River. Visit the ornate Orchha Fort complex before continuing to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed city of Khajuraho which is renowned for its group of exquisitely carved temples. Visit the temples and then return to the train. Optional experiences such as spa treatments and a sound and light show are available this evening.
Day 6: Varanasi Embark on a tour of the city which includes visits to the ancient ruins of Sarnath and the Varanasi Silk Weaving Centre, as well as a scenic cruise on the Ganges. Witness the magical evening Aarti ceremony – a religious ritual of worship – on the ghats of the Ganges.
Day 7: Lucknow Arrive in the enchanting ‘City of Nawabs’, Lucknow, home to an eclectic collection of architecture from Mughal to British Colonial. Tour the Rumi Darwaza, an impressive 18th-Century gateway, and the tomb complex of Bada Imambara. This evening experience traditional hospitality and Awadhi cuisine at the Raja of Jahangirabad’s palace.
Day 8: Delhi This morning disembark the train in Delhi.
