Television presenter Anita Rani is helping to put travel to Sri Lanka back on the map with the launch of a new film for worldwide travel company Kuoni. 

From sampling traditional Sri Lankan egg hoppers to seeing baby elephants in Minneriya National park, Anita’s adventure around Sri Lanka is documented in her journey, filmed exclusively by the presenter for Kuoni. 

In her first visit to the island, Anita created a bespoke itinerary with the travel experts at Kuoni to satisfy her adventurous spirit. 

Taking in a climb to the top of the iconic Sigiriya Rock, walking through the jungle to the temples at Dambulla, wildlife spotting in the national parks and the beaches of the south coast, Anita creates an inspiring series of tales about the island. 

The new film is being launched on Kuoni’s YouTube channel this week and her trip is also on the cover of the latest Kuoni magazine. Social media posts from Facebook, twitter and Instagram will appear throughout August to promote the movie which also appears on the Sri Lanka pages of the Kuoni website. 

Sri Lanka was listed at second position in Kuoni’s worldwide travel trends in February this year, but fell dramatically following the Easter attacks. Following the removal of the FCO travel advisory for Sri Lanka, enquiries and bookings for Sri Lanka have steadily returned, showing that confidence is returning, particularly for 2020 holidays. 

Anita said: “I’ve totally fallen in love with Sri Lanka. Uncrowded beaches, history, culture, adventure, incredible food – the island has it all.  But what really stands out is the people.  The characters I met were wonderful, helpful and have a great sense of pride in their country. We’d love to come back one day and I have been telling all my friends and family what a special place Sri Lanka is.” 

Derek Jones, Kuoni CEO, said: “Anita is such a popular and well-loved personality, her enthusiasm for the destination shines through.  She brings her own insight to the film, which shows the diversity of a small island rich in history, culture and natural wonders.” 

In addition to the new film, Kuoni is increasing marketing activity to support Sri Lanka.  The company is investing in staff and travel agent educationals this year, media trips and it will also play a central role in Kuoni’s Autumn marketing campaign.
