 Marrakech, Desert and Beach

This 9-night holiday combines Marrakech, a High Atlas day trip, a night in Agafay Desert and a relaxed finish on Morocco's Atlantic coast.

One day, you’re watching bread go into a communal oven in Marrakech. Next, you’re walking between orchards and terraced fields in the High Atlas on your way to lunch in a local family’s home. Then come Agafay’s pale, stony hills and a night at camp, followed by Atlantic waves on the coast near Taghazout. This seven-night trip keeps changing scenes. It includes a guided introduction to Marrakech’s medina, a day in the mountains, and a visit to Taroudant’s walled souks. The coast gets a free day, too, so you can book a surf lesson, settle in on the beach, or linger over seafood. And if that last part sounds especially tempting, you can add extra nights at the end.

Recommended itinerary

Days 1 & 2

Marrakech

Arrive in Marrakech and take a private transfer to your hotel. Your first evening is yours to spend in the city before tomorrow’s guided introduction to the medina, its walled old quarter.Spend the day exploring the medina with your guide. See the Koutoubia Mosque’s minaret, the intricate decoration of Ben Youssef Madrasa, once a school for Islamic learning, and the courtyards of the Bahia Palace. After lunch at a local restaurant, visit Le Jardin Secret, the spice square, and workshops where craftspeople work with leather, metal, and ceramics. At a communal bakery, see where neighbours bring their bread to be baked. There’s mint tea and pastries in a traditional riad before you finish at Jemaa el-Fna, Marrakech’s great public square.

Day 3

High Atlas Mountains

Leave Marrakech for a full day in the High Atlas. Walk through a village and past terraced fields, orchards, and the irrigation channels that keep them growing. A local family welcomes you into their home for a traditional lunch, with time for mint tea before the journey back to Marrakech.

Day 4

Agafay Desert

Travel by private SUV to Agafay for a night at a desert camp. This is a landscape of pale earth and rocky hills. Watch the light change across them as evening approaches and, if the sky is clear, step outside after dark for a look at the stars.

Days 5-8

Atlantic Coast near Taghazout

Head west by private SUV to Morocco’s Atlantic coast. Your base will be around Taghazout Bay or farther north at Imi Ouaddar, on a stretch known for its beaches and surf. Spend the rest of the day getting acquainted with the sea. There’s an included full-day excursion that takes you inland to Taroudant, an old market town enclosed by ochre ramparts. Walk through its medina with a guide, past souks and craft stalls that are still part of local trade. Afterwards, sit down to lunch in gardens beyond the walls before returning to the coast. There’s no excursion in the diary for your final full day. Book an optional local surf lesson if you’d like to try the waves, stay on the beach, or make a long seafood lunch the main event.
