Swap city lights for Agafay skies, with Atlas views, pool lodges, stargazing, and dinner under canvas.
Agafay is a rocky, almost lunar sweep of hills just outside Marrakech. The White Camel gives desert camping the full hotel treatment, with canvas tents and glass-fronted lodges, two pools, a spa, and dining spaces made for the view. Fill the afternoon with a camel ride, quad bike, or yoga, then slow things down for sunset, tagine, music, and stars. On clear days, the Atlas Mountains sharpen into view, and Marrakech feels much farther away than the drive suggests.
Why we love The White Camel
-
You don’t need to travel halfway across Morocco for a night in the desert. Agafay is around 40 minutes from Marrakech Menara Airport, so you can swap the city for rocky hills, huge skies, and Atlas views without losing a day to the journey.
-
The Pool Lodges are our pick for the setting. They sit beside the water, close to neighbouring lodges, with the Atlas beyond.
-
Days can be as active as you want, with camel rides, quad bikes, buggies, horseback rides, guided hikes, and yoga all bookable from camp. The hammam and massage rooms are there for the recovery plan.
-
Agafay gets even better after sunset. Dinner can be set in a restaurant or private nomadic tent, evenings can bring music around the fire, and a guided astronomy session brings out the telescope when available.
Rooms
Interiors mirror the desert outside: earthy tones, natural fibres, Berber rugs, custom made wooden furniture, and broad panes of glass that pull the landscape into the room. The Oasis Lodge has a private terrace and proper bathroom, while higher categories add more space, Atlas views, or a poolside setting. The Royal Lodge is the clear step up for privacy, with its own pool and stone cabana.
Facilities
Moroccan cooking leads the way, with tagines, salads, grilled meats, and local flavours joined by international choices. The setting shifts with the day: breakfast in clear morning light, a long lunch looking across the hills, then sunset drinks and dinner beneath a dark desert sky. For something more private, a nomadic tent can be set for just two.
The Singita Restaurant
A light filled restaurant with two terraces and views towards the Atlas, pool, and desert. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with sunset cocktails on the patio.
The David Restaurant
Low tables, white Berber poufs, Amazigh carpets, and wide-open views across the camp. Lunch and dinner are served here, with sunset an especially good time to book.
The Bibliotheque Restaurant
A smaller, more intimate space with brass Art Deco lighting and Atlas views, serving Moroccan cooking with a modern touch.
The 360 Degree Tent
A canvas dining space with panoramic desert views and Moroccan and international dishes for lunch or dinner.
The Nomadic Tent
Private dining for two or more, dressed with Berber rugs and available for lunch or dinner.
