Agafay Holidays

Pale stone ridges, canvas camps, dinner outside, and a very good reason to stay up late — and get up early.

Agafay is only about 25 miles from Marrakech, but the mood shifts fast. Souks and scooters at lunchtime. Chalky tracks, canvas tents, and a wide-open landscape by late afternoon. The city drops out of sight, camps sit between the rocky ridges, and the Atlas Mountains line the horizon on clear days.

First, the useful bit. Agafay isn't the Sahara. There are no great sweeps of orange dunes. Its landscape has its own look: pale, stony, and sculpted into dry folds that turn copper as the sun drops. You get the desert setting without losing several days of a multi-centre holiday to the road.

Leave Marrakech after lunch, and we'll time the transfer so you arrive as the heat begins to ease. Mint tea first. Then walk across the plateau or choose from the activities available at your camp before returning for sunset. We'll talk you through the options, so you know what's worth booking and what can wait until you arrive.

Dinner is part of the experience, not something squeezed in around it. Expect Moroccan salads, warm bread, and a tagine in the dining tent or outside. Once the day visitors have left, voices drop, the air cools, and the sky gets most of the attention. Closed shoes beat sandals on the stony tracks. And bring a jumper. Desert evenings don't care how warm it was in Marrakech.

If you're going to set an alarm on holiday, this is where you’ll do it. Watch first light reach the plateau, have breakfast at camp, then we'll get you moving towards the Atlantic coast.
