From Halifax travel along the coast to the picturesque Western Shore area. Take a stroll along the seaside trail and you might be lucky enough to spot humpback and fin whales off Tancook Island. Continue west into the heart of Nova Scotia. You may wish to make a stop for a day hike at Kejimkujik National Park and Historic Site before spending the night in Digby. Drive along Nova Scotia’s northern shore and admire the Bay of Fundy, famous for its extreme tides, en route to Truro. Take the ferry across the Northumberland Strait to Prince Edward Island, Canada’s smallest province, where you will spend two nights in Charlottetown. Return to Nova Scotia and drive along the northern shore of Cape Breton Island, home to the Cape Breton Highlands National Park. A two-hour whale watching cruise, which departs from Cheticamp, is included here. Continue southbound on the Cabot Trail to Bras d’Or Lake. You may like to stop in Baddeck, home to a museum dedicated to the life of Alexander Graham Bell, on your way to West Bay. Travel over the Canso Causeway towards Liscombe Mills where a tour of the restored 18th-Century Fortress of Louisburg is included.
