Depart the city of Hanoi for Halong Bay (approx. 110 miles; 3½-4 hours), enjoying beautiful scenery en route. Board the elegant Au Co ship, your home for the next two nights and begin a leisurely cruise towards south-west Halong Bay with a Vietnamese-fusion lunch in the Halong Restaurant on board. Go sightseeing around Cua Van Floating Culture Centre by kayak or traditional rowing boat, before returning to the ship and journeying towards Bai Tu Long Bay. Relax this evening with a drink and enjoy complimentary snacks during Happy Hour at Lan Ha Open Bar, before dinner in the restaurant watching Vietnamese cultural dances. Enjoy an evening at leisure – watch a film at the Moonlight Open Cinema, sip cocktails on the sun deck or play board games at the reception area. L, D.

Day 2: Halong Bay
Early risers can join a t'ai chi class on the sun deck or just soak up the incredible views of the bay as the ship sets off. After breakfast, get a look at Cat Ba Island, where you can cycle to Viet Hai Village nestled at the heart of Cat Ba National Park. Enjoy some free time back on the ship at the spa or in the Jacuzzi, before lunch in the restaurant, then visit Trinh Nu Cave – it's filled with beautiful stalactites and stalagmites, and you can swim in the jade-coloured water or sunbathe on the private beach behind the cave. Take part in Masterchef 'Halong Bay Edition' and fruit carving demonstrations, before a barbecue party on the sun deck. B, L, D.

Day 3: Halong Bay to Hanoi
This morning there is another chance to join in with t'ai chi on the deck. After breakfast, explore Sung Sot Cave, the largest in Halong Bay with a 500-metre paved passageway. Return to the ship and continue breakfast as the ship passes Lom Bo Island, Trong Mai Islet and Ba Hang fishing village. Join a traditional Vietnamese tea ceremony before disembarking at Tuan Chau.
