The newest of LUX*’s Mauritius gems where there’s focus on fun, wellbeing and relaxed, sun-kissed days.

Modern may be an overused word when it comes to design, however the architecture and style of LUX* Grand Baie more than warrant the description. From the outset the tone is set by the sail-inspired curve of the lobby building – a 21st-Century nod to the traditional Mauritian sailboat. When you step inside, the vibe is cool, lively, innovative and above all, wonderfully laidback. The resort backs a beach that’s pretty much an island icon, and a calm lagoon which will tempt you at any time of year. The emphasis on wellness goes way beyond just spa treatments (which are of course, exceptional); there’s a thermal bath journey that invigorates, a mind and body studio that calms and a cycle studio that energises. Guests who don’t want to interrupt their fitness training can make the most of Muscle Up on the Roof, the Indian Ocean’s first outdoor wellness experience where you’ll find two 30-metre running tracks and a fitness frame, MyBeast, with 12 workout stations.

This is a great hotel to go for if you like to be close to the heart of the action. Grand Baie, a fishing-village-turned-resort town, is just a 15-minute walk away and home to beach bars, restaurants and a busy harbour. Back at LUX Grand Baie* you’ve got a sophisticated nightclub, Club Ai KISU, a local hotspot, and venues like the rooftop Bisou, a day-to-night bar/restaurant with impeccable ocean views. We love that families are equally as welcome as the night owls here for the post sundown resort life. At the kids’ club, PLAY, the focus reflects the name, but with a side of low-key learning; there are cooking classes, bread making sessions and a bit of child-friendly horticulture.

Kelly Hoppen is a name that’s synonymous with ultra-modern and super sleek hotel design. She’s worked her magic again with LUX* Grand Baie’s rooms which have a relaxing and refreshing neutral tones with bold anthracite elements, modern artwork and light stone-toned soft furnishings. The Residences, Penthouses and Villas each have a private pool and can accommodate four or more adults and at least a couple of kids so they make an excellent option for families or a gathering of friends.
