Recommended highlights

BUENOS AIRES Immerse yourself in the electrifying atmosphere of Argentina’s capital in the historic barrios of San Telmo and La Boca, the modern neighbourhoods of Puerto Madero, and the well-to-do Recoleta and Palermo quarters. Perhaps visit the grand Recoleta Cemetery, the resting place of the nation’s most revered residents including Eva Peron. We highly recommend heading to one of the city’s world-famous tango shows.

EL CALAFATE The busy, yet small city of El Calafate sits on the shore of the vast Lake Argentino and is the gateway to the awe-inspiring Los Glaciares National Park.

A trip to the Perito Moreno Glacier, in the southern part of the park, is an absolute must. You can spend hours witnessing the incredible spectacle of ice calving off the face of the glacier.

PUERTO NATALES This waterside city is the gateway to the spectacular Torres del Paine National Park in Chilean Patagonia. An outdoor adventurer’s paradise, the park has spellbinding landscapes of towering peaks, vast glaciers and ice-fed lakes. The majority of people come here for the fantastic hiking opportunities, while horse riding, lake cruises and mountain biking are also popular.

SANTIAGO Chile’s capital Santiago sits in the shadow of Andean peaks and is one of South America’s most cosmopolitan cities. The city is a pleasure to wander around with parks, plazas and upmarket barrios waiting to be explored. Take the funicular to the top of Cerro San Cristóbal for panoramic city views before heading to neighbourhoods such as Lastarria to enjoy world-class dining. With its setting in the country’s Central Valley, the city is well placed for visits to surrounding wine regions such as Casablanca Valley.
