Public cycle route right through middle of Christmas day lunch. Sums this place up
At best this place looks good, but after a few days you feel pretty exploited. This could be a 4 to 5 star but due to poor management it fails miserably. As I said in the title.... Is it acceptable to have a cycle route right through where we were dining for Christmas lunch. A meal that we had paid £45 a head for (excluding drink). The sheer lack of disorganisation on the day was unbelievable. We booked through Kuoni in UK and its the worst Kuoni recommended hotel we have stayed in. On arrival we asked where we should sit. After a few minutes the confused server told us anywhere. Bei g 3 of us we chose a small table set for four. We then had to wait half an hour to get a drink. It was hot at 12.30pm, around 30 degrees, so we wanted a drink, but staff just repeatedly walked passed us rearranging bits rather than caring for the guests. Having finally got a drink in the area overlooking the beach, we noted that we had to cross the well used cycle path to get to the food! Totally stupid. Dancing around cyclists when you're carrying a full plate of food. Total joke. Anyway, at least santa was there for the kids. Albeit santa with cotton wool badly stuck to his face. I had to take a photo for the sake of sheer amusement. At the end of the meal there was a raffle. Free raffle that was said to be worth waiting for. Yep, we won and our excited daughter, amongst several others went to collect our prize. Free afternoon tea for two. We'll that got our daughter all excited and lifted our spirits. All until in the small print, I spotted the only valid from 1st January 2020 to 31 Dec 2020. And no surprise it turns out all the prizes were the same. And guess what.... None of the winners were staying into the new year. So in effect, having extorted £45 per head for a mediocre self service meal over a cycle path, they hadn't the decency to honour any voucher. We were told via the waiter from the manager that we'd have to come back next year! To this place! You having a laugh. I'd come back if you sacked the team running the place, but otherwise forget it. Never in a thousand years. I've been far better, treated far better. Why fly 17hours to experience this. I was of a mind to photo copy the voucher and hand em out to locals living on the street. That's what this place deserves. But instead, my daughter found a newly married American couple on our last day who were staying into the new year and gave the voucher to them. So it looks nice with all the lovely gardens, water features and pools but when you get down to the actual service. No. Fails. Our superior room was anything but. Having our daughter in our room meant an extra bed, but then we found that we couldn't get to close the curtains as the bed was bang up to the window. A window with badly sewn up net curtains. You couldnt move in our room. Nothing superior here. To add further insult someone decided that we should have single beds despite being married 27yrs. As for how many water and towels we deserved, squashed into this room.... Sometimes we got 3, sometimes not. Same for hand towels and bottles of water. Rarely did the 3 items align. Reporting to reception was pointless as nothing happened. Sheer disorganisation. As for eating at the hotel, the breakfast choice was 3 star charged at 5 star prices. Our feet soon took us to a hotel down the road making excellent lattes and sumptuous breakfast with endless choices for half the price. And it was pretty much the same for all our dining. You'd go for a light lunch. Eventually the menu appears and you order. 20 mins later the drink finally appears. And 20-30 mins after that a scabby pizza appears or bit of pasta. Far from gourmet. But by then you had no drink left. But by the time another appears you've long since finished your meal. Pointless. And don't overlook the service charge and tax which put over 20% more on your bill, for a scabby pizza. It felt like highway robbery. So we dined out, and if you don't you must be easily pleased. Far better food available a short walk away. Better service. Better variety. Better prices. As for the sunbathing around the pool. Only shade is from trees and bushes. Some areas around the pool never get the sun. No parasols. On the beach there are 30 unused sunbeds. It's baking, but no one thought of putting a parasol up to offer shelter on the beach so no one uses these sunbeds. Least the pool towels are decent. In summary, this place looks nice, but it stops there. Right there.
A quieter spot in Sanur
We stayed for 4 nights at the Puri Santrian after an unenjoyable stay in Legian. The hotel is on a quiet street about 400m from the Sanur shopping strip, easy walking with a lot less taxis tooting and cars in general. With direct access to the beach supported by hotel restaurant and cafes. The wifi has broad coverage across the hotel but is pretty slow. The pools are all very good, 2 all access & 2 for the premium guests. The Puri Santrian is a larger resort but with the spacing of rooms, it is also very quiet and relaxing.
On the 9th January 2020 my partner and I got married at Puri Santrian. Our wedding planner Ayu attended to every detail (even the ones we forgot). We had a party of 49 and many guests said they felt like they were on a movie set and that the whole night was a fun party. I would highly recommend this hotel and Ayu to create the wedding of your dreams, as they did ours
The hotel is at the beach. But the beach is not always clean or nice due to tide water. When the tide is high and the beach is cleaned from the sea grass it is actually very nice. There are many sun beds by the beach and by the pool. The hotel is in good standard. It is comfortable. The rooms are big. There many swimming pools at the hotel especially one has literally a pool bar. The stuff is nice and friendly. The service is mostly good but some times a bit too slow. Hotel also offers free yoga practice in the week days. It was one of the best things I liked with this hotel. I definitely recommend this hotel for vacation.
The hotel grounds are beautiful and very well located. Staff is very helpful. We had a few issues when we arrived however Niki and Julie did their best to accommodate our demands. If you come here, ask for the newer rooms. They are spacious, with good air conditioner and wi-fi.
