Wonderful stay in the treetops
Spent three nights in August at Treetops. When we arrived, the staff was delighted to see us and took all of our things so we could walk about unencumbered. The checkin area is built around a giant baobab tree - truly impressive. Up a few stairs is a sitting area overlooking the pool and the waterhole. On arrival, elephants were drinking at the hole, but during our stay we also saw Buffalo, zebras, impalas, and water bucks enjoying a drink. A golf cart took us downhill to our cabin which was on stilts (in the treetops). Upon entry, there was a sitting area next to our large bed. A storage area for our clothes and a desk separated the bed from the large bathroom. When lying on our bed, we had a panoramic view through the screens of the surrounding forest. All our meals were wonderful. Except for two breakfasts, they were all outdoors on the pool surround, and one night in the “corral” where we had BBQ, a bonfire, and Masai native singers/dancers. When we wanted to leave our room, we used a walkie talkie (or made arrangements ahead of time) to call for the golf cart. They were pretty quick to respond. Whenever we returned to our room, service had been there to today up or do our turndown. Only downside was the half hour ride to get to the Tarangire entry gate. But even then, there was usually something to see (e.g. Masai teenage boys herding their cattle).
Such a unique place
Tarangire Treetops was our real first stop on our safari and pulling up by the lodge we were completely blown away! The lodge is nestled just outside the National park in between gigantic baobab trees. The reception, restaurant, pool area are wide open, built around a baobab tree. Just in front of the dining and pool area, there's a waterhole to which many wild animals come. We've had the pleasure to watch elephants, zebras and buffalos coming to the waterhole to drink. Amazing and unforgettable! At the Tarangire Treetops - as the name already gives away - you'll be staying at a stunning and luxurious room located in the top of a baobab tree. Some stairs lead you up to the room which offers everything you'll need: a cosy bed, a bathroom with toilet and shower, tea/coffee, a sitting area and a beautiful terrace. When staying at the Treetops, you'll be assigned a guest ambassador. A staff member who will take care of you during your stay and pamper you with all your needs and wants (even those you didn't know you've had!). Justine was our guest ambassador. A young man so full of life and passion. He taught us our first Swahili words and shared much of his bird knowledge with us. The highlight though was the dinner Justine had set up for us. This trip was our honeymoon and Justine prepared us the surprise of a lifetime for which we will forever be grateful! He had set up our dinner table by the waterhole, lit a bonfire and invited Massai to sing and dance for us. It was a very touching and unforgettable moment. While staying at the Treetops, we had lunch twice (once at the lodge and one packed lunch) as well as dinner. The food was amazing! Having stayed at the Tarangire Treetops, we had one single regret: not spending another night at the lodge! The National park is amazing and we would have loved having an extra day for game drives there. But most importantly we would have loved spending another night at the Treetops to fully soak up its beauty and uniqueness. As we said to Riian and the staff: see you soon! And next time, we'll spend 2 nights :-)
Highlight of our Tanzania trip!
This place is truly magical. Highlight of our 3 week trip to Tanzania. The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming. Everyone felt like family. We had arranged to elope there one of the days and it was perfect! This place will always hold a special place in our hearts and we hope we can return someday soon! The private sundowners on sunset hill was a dream. The staff here go above and beyond to make your stay perfect! I only wish we stayed here longer. The pool and watering hole were spectacular, it was surreal to be having dinner and then a herd of elephants visit! The game drives were lovely and our driver Stan was very knowledgeable. Also Justin our butler was the best! Visiting the Maasai village was also a highlight. The rooms were huge and clean. The bed was the most comfortable bed we had our entire trip!
Unforgettable Treetop Adventure without Leaving the Lodge!
Where to start!? The treetop accommodations are spacious & beautiful - with their own dual head shower & bathroom in a tree! The bed was very comfortable & the views were amazing. The main lodge area was very welcoming & you could see bats, elephants, zebras, & more as they came to drink from the water hole just below the lodge. All of the staff were very conscious of our safety as well as caring ensuring we had a wonderful experience. The food was excellent & everyone was so nice. There were even special surprises planned for everyone during our stay. I would definitely stay here again myself & recommend to anyone wanting to stay near Tarangire National Park.
Excellent lodge with great staff
We were picked up at the airstrip in Tarangire National Park by Stan, one of the guides from the lodge. He took us on a wonderful trip through the park that lasted the rest of the day. Along the way we stopped for a delicious picnic lunch. All of that set the stage for a great visit. We were welcomed at the lodge with cool towel and a nice greeting from the staff. Check-in was quick and easy. The rooms were huge and had great views. The staff genuinely seemed happy to have us as their guests. Food each day was excellent. You are certain to catch the Masai singing entertainment at dinner at least one night. After dark, you need an escort to/from your room. I wasn’t sure this was necessary until we encountered a lion on a night tour less than a quarter mile from the lodge. And during one day, we had an elephant between our room and our daughter’s room. I highly recommend a night tour, a walking tour and a visit to the nearby Masai village. These experiences are not available at every safari location. We were really impressed with our guide. Despite it being the end of the rainy season (we didn’t experience rain, but the grass was still tall), we saw Ron’s of animals. In areas outside of the park, we were able to go off-road to get closer — though still at a safe distance. Stan accommodated my needs for photography really well. He seemed to understand where I needed to be to get the best shot, and he was patient to let me shoot as long as I wanted in any particular spot. There is distance between rooms, and it can be a long walk from the main lodge/restaurant area. Fortunately there is a golf cart available as needed. On the other hand, the distance provides a great sense of privacy. It feels like you are completely alone in the wilderness. We will stay here again if we are ever fortunate enough to find ourselves in the Tarangire area.
