Amazing family safari July 2019
First family safari holiday. Stayed 3 nights 11-14th July. We stayed in 1 luxury family tent and a lodge next door. Hlosi lodge has a very cosy luxurious feel. The scenery and vistas from your patio and balconies are amazing. The staff were very helpful and very attentive. The food is high quality and delicious. Game drives lasting 3-4 hours twice a day we saw all the big 5. Our guide Lucky was incredibly knowledgeable and very helpful. He made game drives very interesting and fun with lots of information about local flora fauna and interesting facts about wildlife conservation. Very fortunate to see a live cheetah kill on our last morning game drive also. A wonderful holiday experience. highly recommended.
We stayed in a tent for 3 nights. Never opened my curtains to see rhinos outside my window! The morning drives left early (0700) but gave the best opportunity to see lots of game. Our guide Juan-Luc, was really knowledgable and a friendly guy who found us all we wanted to see. Food was good and as an all inclusive option this worked really well for us. Loved it
A wonderful safari experience
We stayed here for three nights and loved every minute. Staff and facilities were first class and the scenery was amazing. Two three hour game drives every day and the big five which you actually see and get close too. Our ranger Jono was excellent, full of knowledge and we saw different things on every drive. Food and accommodation was of a very high standard and staff couldn't do enough for you.
Truly Amazing Experience
The Allison Families first Safari but what an exceptional place to visit. Hlosi Game Lodge was brilliant as it was small enough to be personal. The staff were simply brilliant from Elvis to all the support staff. In addition the food was amazing. We had animals right outside our accommodation. We stayed in a tent, now whilst the accommodation was 5 star it was still a tent so we heard a whole serious of animals at work during the night. The tents have a outside shower which works great and is surreal showering under the stars on a clear night ! Now for the Safari simply exceptional. The skill, knowledge and professionalism shown by Andrew our Ranger simply made our holiday. He was brilliant and great company. The reserve is massive but the lodges are few which makes the experience so much more personal. You really get close to the animals which is simply amazing. The animals are very much in there rural , natural environment. Amakhala take the welfare of the animals very seriously which is great. The rangers respect the animals and are very disciplined in not influencing or affecting the natural behaviour of animals which is brilliant. Highly recommend this lodge for anyone with an interest in going on Safari it’s brilliant! It’s only an hours drive from Port Elizabeth Airport which was brilliant too !
First Class Ranger Jean-Luc, So-so lodge Facility
Hoosier prides itself as being one of the most luxurious glamping lodges in the private game reserve of Amakhala. And rightfully so. The lodge was nicely decorated in a colonial game reserve look...we took a luxury 2 bedroom lodge. Somehow things don't always go the way they supposed to in a lodge in the middle of nowhere, no matter how glam pit made out to be. We struggled with hot water the first night, finally after changing the casket, the heater and the pipes, we had to shower in another lodge at 11pm. Not a good start. The 2nd day, the hot water was still ify. Then the wifi broke down. And nights in the reserve is freezing. In Port Elizabeth we were wearing shorts and t shirts. Here we woke up to see fresh snow on the tracks. The biting winds meant real feel of 3C, notwithstanding it was showing 13C. We were inadequately dressed and despite layering ourselves with the onboard blankets and ponchos, it was still frostbiting cold. But what made our 3Days and 6 Game Drives special was Jean-Luc. He is a Sheldon lookalike with a wispy goatee, and with a splitting similar personality. Jean-Luc is one of the most knowledgeable rangers...through his ranger training, he also embarked on majors in birds, plants etc. He literally had an answer to everything we ask of him...including which star was blinking the brightest etc...his uncanny sense of humour kept our spirits up... Fastest and easiest way to see a lion or cheetah,,, drop your customers off the Range Rover every 100m. Jokes like this made our drives great! We also saw elephants playing and pulling out water pipes buried in the ground, ostriches mating, lions feeding, cheetah chasing after its springbok (but lost the chase), more warthogs than we can count etc. Jean-Luc taught us to read the footprints of diff animals, the mating calls of diff birds, and the feeding rituals of diff animals. We also had our tea out in the open plains for each drive, something my 2 girls look forward to. It's a magical moment. It was an eye opener. We learnt if you respect the animals and learn to understand them, you do not need to arm yourself with a gun or even a stick. Tks to Jean-Luc, visiting zoos will never be the same again. The happiest animals are those roaming free, in heir own element,,,not some poor animal trapped behind a fence or force to do tricks the whole day or walk with humans. Here the animals roam free. As they hv before men appeared.
