This was our second visit to Veligandu and special as we were celebrating our 40th Wedding Anniversay. We were greeted by the staff with warmth and like old friends. We stayed in a Sunset Jacuzzi Water Villa which had been updated and was spotlessly clean. Every member of the Veligandu team wore a mask and there were hand sanitizers at all public places and our temperature was checked every morning. During these unusual times of Covid-19 we felt extemely safe staying in Veligandu with all the precautions they had taken to look after their guests. In fact, we feel there couldnt be anywhere safer to take a holiday than in this beautiful, tropical paradise. Rifau, was our Island Host and he did everything he could to help us and if we had any issues, he speedily resolved them. He had arranged a welcome back cake along with a bottle of bubbly and also a wedding anniversary cake and more bubbly. In the restaurant we were well taken care of by Akram and Abdullah H. The food was a delight, I especially enjoyed the fresh fruit, vegetables and fish. We dined out on the beach several times which was magical. We spent most evenings in the newly refurbished Thudi Bar which had a chic Maldivian vibe. We enjoyed cocktails and musical evenings in the Thudi Bar and Nafees made us two little boats carved from the palm trees to take home for our grandchildren. We met some wonderful coupes staying on the island and enjoyed a great night fishing trip where we all managed to catch a fish. My husband and another holiday friend also had a great time on the big game fishing trip where he caught a huge Wahu which was shared in the restaurant. We can't recommend this isalnd highly enough. In fact, we go as far to say, that this was the best holiday we have every enjoyed and look forward to going back.
A slice of heaven on earth! 😍
My husband and I had an excellent and very unique experience at Veligandu amid COVID-19. We hope to come back to paradise soon! I’d like to first mention that we were impressed with the safety measures put in place throughout the resort - hand sanitizing stations, staff wearing masks and social distancing measures during dining - we felt safe our entire stay. They check your temperature every morning, FYI. I say we had a unique experience because there were only a handful of couples on the resort during our 11 night stay. It felt like we had the entire island to ourselves and the service was impeccable! We will miss Naaem, Akram, Abdulla, Naail, Adam, Rifau, Alex and all the wonderful staff at Veligandu. Our island host Rifau was very attentive - he upgraded our villa to a sunset jacuzzi villa - and we are so happy he was able to do so (without us even asking)! My husband had a blast every morning snorkeling right off the deck- I joined him a couple of times - we saw beautiful fish, sea turtles, sting rays and reef sharks! Incredible! And the cherry on top were the beautiful sunsets mostly every night. We looked forward to walking the island every morning after breakfast and lunch - it’s a small island so you can walk the entire island under 20 minutes. We also enjoyed our spa days and some of the excursions included in the All Inclusive Package. The sunset cruise is included in the AIP - highly recommended. We didn’t get to see any dolphins the first night, so Adam - Director of Operations - kindly offered us to join another sunset cruise a different night. We didn’t get to see any dolphins the second time around either, but the experience made up for it (They offered to take us on a third sunset cruise - that’s how great the customer experience is). The food was delicious every meal! One of the main chefs is from Indonesia, so make sure to get any Indonesian/ Asian food on the menu! Some of the dishes were some of the best we’ve had. We also enjoyed the BBQ nights on the beach! Also the daily soup options - chefs kiss! It was sunny a majority of our stay. It is monsoon season in September, so you can expect some high winds at times and rain showers that last for a couple of minutes - nothing that will spoil the trip. We were very sad to leave Veligandu. We would highly recommend this resort to our family and friends, and we hope to be back soon! A handful of couples we met were repeat guests (12th and 19th time) - that spoke volumes to us. Truly a slice of heaven on earth - nothing like it! This place will always have a special place in our hearts.
Paradise on Earth!
Ever wondered what paradise looks like? Well, here is one example! This is a fantastic resort with a lush tropical garden/forest despite its small size. All houses and villas are of a more traditional design which fits in very well with the surroundings (and not vulgar like some island resorts that have massive villas with pools on the water). The service is 5 stars from arrival to departure, absolutely amazing staff. They deserve all praise they can get and indeed the manager as well for running such a tight ship! All amenities on the island were also 5 star, from the bars and restaurants to the various activities and services offered to guests. Highly recommend to go scuba diving since there are some amazing dive sites near the resort. The only "hickup" was the weather - but unfortunately, not even the great staff at Veligandu can control the rain... Despite some rain (and a medical emergency, where the staff was extremely helpful), we still enjoyed our stay 100% and recommend everyone to visit! We will for sure be back!
One word: Paradise
Veligandu Island Resort & Spa was our honeymoon destination and we could not have chosen a more wonderful place on earth. We spent 2 magical weeks there. Unfortunately our trip was unexpectedly prolonged due to Covid19 but amidst the adversity, the staff kept their composure and couldnt have been better. From arrival to departure, we loved every second we spent on Veligandu. We stayed in a sunset Jacuzzi water villa, which was excellent. Every evening the sunsets got more beautiful and never lost their magic. It was very clean and spacious. We spent a couple of evenings on our private jetty to drink a glass of rose and watch the sunset before going to dinner. Blacktip reef sharks and sting rays were regular visitors. The food was delicious and different every day. We were amazed by the quality and variety of the buffet. The staff were outstanding. Special mention to Abdullah H. who provided us with wonderful service during breakfast, lunch and dinner. Imrad, who took us on the most amazing jet ski and snorkel trips . And Kinley who made our spa visit unforgettable. The island itself is immaculately kept, as are all the facilities at all times. The beaches are pristine. It is so beautiful, not even the promotional pictures do it justice. We did a sunrise snorkle trip, a punch-lucky dolphin cruise, jetski/snorkle trips, couples massage and enjoyed the various entertainments put on by the staff and we would recommend doing all of them. To sum up: the whole experience was magical and gave us memories that will last a lifetime.
One of the lucky few!
Well this was our third visit to Veligandu and arranged to coincide with our wedding anniversary - we were married on the island last year. We had booked our usual Sunset JWV and all was perfect when we arrived, a friendly welcome and our preferred room choice honoured by Team Veligandu! - what could possibly go wrong? COVID-19 crisis... although there were none on Veligandu and only 13 cases reported in the whole of the Maldives over the two weeks whilst we were there. Team Veligandu were outstanding and to be honest if were not for watching the daily news in our villa, you would not have even realised there was a world crisis erupting! Day-today life on Veligandu continued uninterrupted - like it had always done on our previous visits, a few more hand sanitisation stations being the only visible signs of 'something going on' We had daily temperature checks as we went for breakfast - which, given the seriousness nature of the emerging problem, was a very sensible cautionary intervention. The days passed by without drama and it was eventually time to come home. The Maldives Government had shut the Maldives down from the UK for new arrivals on the Thursday and we were due to fly on the Saturday - a direct British Airways flight from Male to London Gatwick. Again - no drama, Team Veligandu checked on the flights for us the previous day and confirmed that it would be departing as scheduled. On the Saturday we boarded the seaplane and said goodbye to Veligandu for another year - the holiday had been terrific, even with all that was going on in the world! To be honest, if we could have been guaranteed a flight home at a later date we would have stayed and 'social distanced' ourselves in paradise!! The flight home was delayed for three hours - but we all got home safe and sound. British Airways had sent the Boeing 777 out to Male empty just to pick us up as scheduled, so full marks to them for that - they often get a kicking - but not this time from the passengers who were all very grateful that we got back to the UK as planned. A special thanks to all at Team Velligandu for making our third stay o the island very special, with special thanks to (Mickey) MOOSA and AREES who could not have looked after us any better. We will be back next year... when all this going on now will be a distant memory!!
