What to expect
Day 1 Southampton, England
Embark on your 15-night cruise on board Azamara PursuitSM from Southampton.
Day 2 At sea
Day 3 Belfast, Northern Ireland
Days 4-5 At sea
Days 6-7 Reykjavik, Iceland
Today you’ll visit Iceland’s capital on the south-west coastline – a gateway to beautiful landscapes fringed by islands and backed by mountains. Head to a warm public pool powered by geothermal springs, or feed the ducks at Tjörnin, a tranquil city-centre lake. An eight-mile bike tour is a great way to explore; pedal past Hallgrímskirkja – Iceland’s
largest church, the stunning waterfront Harpa Concert Hall, the 19th-Century Icelandic Parliament and the Sun Voyager monument – a stylish stainless-steel sculpture of a boat overlooking the sea.
Day 8 Ísafjördur, Iceland
Hop off at serene Ísafjördur, secluded in Iceland’s West Fjords peninsula. Created by ancient volcanoes, it has long been a successful fishing port. Take in the mountain scenery; if you’re up to the challenge, trek to the enchanting Dynjandi Waterfall, plunging nearly 100 metres down the rock face and offering superb views. Vigur Island, in Ísafjördur Bay, has only five residents – a farmer and his family, plus a few thousand birds including puffins and a large eider duck colony. It also has Iceland’s only windmill and smallest post office – send a postcard back home before embarking again.
Day 9 Akureyri, Iceland
Enjoy some time in Akureyri, a vibrant northern city on the shores of a breathtaking fjord with a sweeping mountain backdrop. Although it’s just 60 miles from the Arctic Circle, summer temperatures are mild and the area’s landscape is diverse and often green, making its Botanical Gardens a key attraction. Discover over 2,000 species of plants here without any need for a greenhouse.
Day 10 Seydisfjördur, Iceland
Disembark at this eastern village of only 800 residents, at the innermost point of a picturesque fjord with cascading waterfalls and rolling peaks. Visit the famous wooden Blue Church; once on a hill, it was blown over in a storm and rebuilt in its current central position. Head to the Tvísöngur Sound Sculpture above the village – enter five interconnected concrete domes on the hillside, each with a different echo to reflect Icelandic music’s five-tone harmony. Stop off at Skaftfell Center for Visual Art, an intriguing space and spot for locals in a restored home dating back to 1907.
