Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa

The prime spot on Ka'anapali Beach

Sheraton Maui is a mega hotel on one of the best beaches in Hawaii.

When it comes to imagining the ideal beach resort, this one sure comes close to perfect. The open-air lobby of the Sheraton Maui fizzes with holiday vibes. Saronged guests pick up a coffee or cocktail from the lobby bar en route to the pool or beach. There are wafts of tropically scented sunscreen in the air and a view of swaying palms in front of a glittering ocean and around the lagoon-style swimming pool.

As its name suggests, Cliff Dive Grill is not only a great place to try local cuisine, but also to witness the nightly cliff diving ritual.

The Spa at Black Rock offers therapies in one of the seven treatment rooms or in an oceanside cabana. Many of the treatments are based on Hawaiian traditions - be pampered with a mango and pomegranate seed oil massage or cocooned in a pohu berry body wrap.

Each day there is schedule of activities at the resort. As the sun rises, take part in a gentle yoga session, learn how to make an orchid lei or meet members of the local art community. Late afternoon, head to the pool deck for live music and a hula display before witnessing the legendary cliff diving at sunset.

As well as the lagoon pool, one of Maui's best snorkelling experiences is at Pu'u Keka'a (Black Rock) - just in front of the resort. You can also rent paddle and surf boards or explore the coast by outrigger canoe or kayak.

As part of its sustainability initiatives, Sheraton encourages guests to refill their reusable water bottles from the resort's water stations. They also have Raw Elements reef-safe sunscreen dispensers throughout the resort.

Golf is available at the par-71 Royal Ka'anapali course or at the nine-hole Ka'anapali Kai course.
