The Maasai Mara is home to one of the highest concentrations of wildlife in the world and today you’ll begin to discover it. The region is deservedly famous for its big cats but is also a fantastic place to experience other wildlife including elephants, giraffe, zebra, antelope, impala, hyenas and warthogs. It's a joy to see your children learn about and appreciate wildlife and nature on a family game drive around the reserve. During your stay there’s the opportunity to take a thrilling hot-air balloon safari to gain a whole new perspective of the Maasai Mara. Wake early and watch as the balloon is prepared, then take flight and drift upwards as the sun rises and wildlife roam below. This is our most popular optional experience in Kenya. The rest of the day is spent wildlife spotting on further game drives. Return to camp for a dip in the swimming pool or to unwind at the Tulia wellness tent. Overnight at Sarova Mara Game Camp.

With your safari completed it’s time to hit the beach for some further family time. After breakfast you’ll fly via Nairobi to Malindi on Kenya’s coast, then drive to the nearby Watamu Marine National Park. Here you’ll spend the next 5-nights in an elegant retreat, fronting a white-sand beach and backed by the Mida Creek Mangrove Forest. Choose from luxury hotel rooms or 2 and 4 bedroom apartments. With over 600 species of fish flitting among corals, the Watamu Marine National Park is a veritable paradise for diving and snorkelling. Both can be arranged from the hotel, as well as a wide selection of other water sports including stand-up paddleboarding, kitesurfing, water-skiing and wakeboarding. You may also spot turtles swimming ashore to bury their eggs in the sand, or even humpback whales during July and August. The mangrove forest surrounding the hotel is also rich in birdlife. The nearby town of Malindi is well worth a visit to explore the crumbling Gedi Ruins. Dating back to the early 13th century, this once-grand Swahili town is UNESCO-listed. Tree roots tangle with stone walls and branches overhang grand arches, as the remains are slowly reclaimed by primeval forest. Known as ‘Little Italy’ due to its population of Italian expats, Malindi’s streets are filled with gelato shops and pizzerias that are perfect for a sea-front feast. Overnight at Hemingways Watamu.
