We had a very relaxing vacation and there were very good service and staff is very professional and friendly, the food selection and variety is great and ala carte service, this is a one of best recommendations in Zanzibar
Beach restaurants and chairs
We were staying in Matemwe and came for the day to Kendwa. We enquired if we can use the chairs if we have lunch there. A very friendly waitress contact managed but the cost was $80. The menu is actually very pricey and on par with a good restaurant in New York. Our lunch would have costed about $80 for the 2 of us. And of course the food can’t compare with New York standards. It is very low season at the moment and a lot of the establishments have already closed for the season. We moved on as all the other hotels offered free use and WiFi if you ate at their establishment or drank a drink . I can only think the Gold Zanzibar Beach Hotel is so flush with money that they don’t need customers as their rates are so inflated they can customers away.
Gold Zanzibar - First Visit
This was our first visit to Zanzibar and we were recommended this hotel by our travel agent and friends. We travelled as a family of 4 and had to book two rooms as our teenage daughter (17yo) is considered an adult. She stayed in a suite next to ours with her younger brother (8yo).We booked 2× Deluxe Ocean Room Suites and booked the AI panckage. Check-in was quick but our luggage took some time to arrive at our rooms. Rooms were large, comfortable and beautifully decorated. We had fresh flowers and towel arrangements on our bed daily. Bottled water is supplied daily as you cannot drink the tap water. Housekeeping was efficient. At night, housekeeping would spray rooms for insects. Our bath did not work, the plug seemed broken and water would just seep through. The minibar isn't 'fully' stocked, it contained two local beers and soda drinks and wasn't always re-stocked during our stay. The hairdryer plug fitting did not fit into any of the room plugs. Not huge issues, just a mention to the hotel to address. Perhaps also consider umbrellas for rooms for the rainy days? We frequented the spa 3 times on our trip, a special mention to the ladies who offer superb massage treatments! An awesome spa! The beach was the highlight of our trip. Beautiful white sandy beach with enough shade and sun beds and the ocean with all it's hues of blue! The beach boy issue (not a fault of the hotel) was quickly resolved when they approached us and we started replying in our native language of Afrikaans. Beach staff was attentive and helpful. Special mention to Teddy and Moses for their good service. The buffet was average for a 5* establishment. The food was good but repetitive. Not all food had placards (especially dessert - and could become an issue for people like me with a nut allergy). The dessert (and salad) room had a fly issue daily. Perhaps consider a cold curtain to this area? A special mention to Masoud and Samuel for the good service provided at the Kilimanjaro restaurant. We also enjoyed the live band in the evening. Overall we had a lovely stay and appreciated the polite and friendly staff. With the best beach on Kendwa we will see you again! Asante Sana Gold Zanzibar.
Very good food, great music, every boby was nice, comes to our tables and ask how we are feeling including the owner. The waitress Paschalina is very nice and warm, paying attention every detail 😊. Nice experience, it worth 😉
