We stayed in the hotel Bahia for 10 days during the Easter break. We had been before 5 years ago pre having our son who is now 5 years old. I can summarize our stay in just one sentence: They go way and beyond to make your stay fantastic! The service is truly exceptional, kind and done with intelligence. I have written a bit more bellow on specific areas of the hotel, but I consider this one of the best hotels in Spain if not further beyond and we have been in plenty of top luxury hotels in the world including most other 5 stars in Tenerife. Room: This is the only aspect of our stay that would not get a top rating from us. We had a garden room; it was adequate and it had everything you need but we were unlucky to get one that has one of those indoor balconies and as such we did not get much light in the room. The size for 3 persons is ok and the bathroom was a bit small, especially with a 5-year-old that needs his bath, I just did not have too much room to help him. Restaurants: We made sure we tried all restaurants once, some twice and we thought they were all super good quality. We made bookings with the club house on arrival, so we had our evenings organized. Some restaurants were very busy, especially the trattoria and even so the waiting stuff was very nice. We had the half board and it included all the food in the menus with some supplements for some dishes. Drinks were separate as well. You just sign for the extras at the end and that is it. I think our favorites were the Burger Bar, Club House and Hacienda. We also went to NUB that had just opened; the club house arranged the booking as well as the nanny for us to have a date night. Nub is located by the villas and we were taken there in a golf buggy. We have the tasting menu with the long wine pairings and everything was fantastic. We tried delicious dishes all with a lovely explanation. Apparently the experience moves you from the bar to dining area and from there to terrace but due to covid that was not possible but it was still excellent. Kids Club: Our son loved it! So what else is there to say? He went every morning from 10 to 12:30 and he did lovely arts and crafts, games in the garden, baking biscuits… many were Easter themed like making bunnies with balloons, searching for Easter eggs in the gardens etc In the afternoon they would put huge inflatables in the pool and you can participate in the activity. His favorite was the little boats you have to steer yourself with your arms in the pool. The ladies in the kid’s club were superb and made Maxi feel comfortable straight away even though they had to follow some strict covid rules. Pools: They are very nice all of them and 2 of them were warmed up. The kids pool was warm and if one day it was a bit cooler we would tell the pool guy and he would call to put it higher which in a few hours it was. The other pool that was warm was opposite the Brasserie where they would have the inflatables in the afternoon. There are pool guys everywhere setting up your sun bed with towels, water umbrellas etc and bar service was good too, we had a drink everyday in the pool pre-lunch and it was promptly delivered with some nibbles. It’s a great hotel in a great location, it’s very big but it does not feel that way due to the beautiful architecture of the buildings. We are definitely coming back soon cause we really, really liked it.
Poor quality of food/management issues
My family and I came to Bahia Del Duque for a weeks stay and to say the least, our experience was way below our expectations. We have been to many hotels within the same chain of leading hotels of the world and this one was way below the standard of the others. The quality of the food is generally just fair. The Italian restaurant is good and has good variations of food for vegetarians. But the other restaurant have a lot of work to be done, not only in the kitchen, but management as-well. We were served cold and bland fish at the Mediterranean restaurant and were treated with great disrespect by the manager and accusing us of lying and causing problems voluntarily. There was no Professionalism shown by the manager and just utter disrespect. That is not a way to treat a customer is a customer service business! Appalling! Generally the rooms are mostly outdated and old have old styles. Room service is poor. Breakfast is adequate. The location and area of the hotel is very nice, the views and general vibes are nice. The staff are generally nice and want to satisfy you other than the managers we have encountered. The pools are generally quite cold. The beach is very nice and is our go to location to spend our day. Overall the kitchen needs an large improvement of quality and more variations of food for non meat eaters. The management needs a change. For the price you have to pay, I wouldn’t recommend staying at the hotel for these reasons unless you want to have a good stay near the beach.
Great break in tricky times
We made a last minute booking for a week’s stay at this hotel (half board) and it proved the perfect tonic after a long period of lockdown and restrictions. Yes, social distancing, hand hygiene and other Covid rules needed to be obeyed but the hotel applied them sensibly and professionally. The choice of restaurants is great - although some (Sua) are much better than others (the Italian) - and the buffet (El Bernegal) is clean, good quality and varied. Staff are helpful and friendly and we received particularly good service from Manuel Reyes - many thanks to him. I’m not sure what it’s like in the busier summer but I’d recommend this hotel for some winter sun (although bring a jumper or jacket for the colder evenings).
Excellent Christmas holiday
Excellent holiday despite Covid19 - great food and service, especially by Manuel Reyes in the El Bernegal buffet restaurant. Clean rooms and attentive housekeeping with nightly turndown service. Would come again for a well-rounded family holiday with something for people of all ages.
Good but tip with cash!
Came here for Christmas in 2020 and I thought the hotel was generally really good. Overpriced across the board of course but that comes with the territory. What did make the place was the staff. Funny, warm, attentive and generally brilliant. That meant it was all the more disappointing to find out that when you add tips to your bill (on the room rather than with cash) they don’t actually go to the staff. That’s just plain wrong. Management please sort that out. There is no excuse for that...
