Poor quality room and service . Unhelpful staff . Changed rooms due to old decor , put in a more modern room much smaller . Room had ants which although sorted took the hotel a long time . Please note unless you make a reservation in one of the restaurants it’s likely you’ll only be able to eat in the buffet .
The Del Duque is a five or six star hotel In Adeje Tenerife. It is the only hotel in Tenerife listed in the Best Hotels in the World. Given that there are several five star hotels in Adeje this is indeed some accolade!! We chose a room with a garden view as opposed to a sea view. When we arrived the reception area was very impressive and we were not disappointed by the other communal areas either. Also, the areas around the numerous pools were wonderful if it hadn’t been for the litter left under sun loungers by the careless cleaners. We were taken to our room later in the afternoon or early evening and it was already dark but not as dark as the decor and furnishings in the room itself!! After a lovely breakfast we decided to complain about the room and the limited garden view due to the large succulent foliage opposite the small balcony. We were transferred to a room with a sea view but although brighter and with better natural lighting it only highlighted the poor old furnishings of an hotel in serious need of an upgrading of most of their rooms. Hosting the soccer teams from Barcelona and Real Madrid could have been the reason for damage to the door frame near the lock where it appeared that the door had been forced open perhaps after the loss of a door card!!! There was no proper repair of the frame. I would not recommend this hotel as being up to the necessary standard expected and the prices charged when there are others that offer better value in Adeje.
One of the Leading Hotels certainly....
My wife and I returned to this hotel for the third visit. It’s convenient from the airport, and located on a lovely beach cove setting. The immediate surroundings to the hotel have been tastefully developed with some classy shops and restaurants. The hotel is a really lovely place, inside and out. A golf cart service does help you get around if needed, especially at night from the beach gate after a few vinos! It’s better if you book a sea view/pool view room to enjoy the Sun morning or night. Staff are well trained and highly polite. Food is excellent in the buffet both for breakfast or dinner, but a classy choice of restaurants available which you should book upon arrival, so do your homework on these before you arrive. This time we only went B&B so we could dine out for a change at night as local restaurants are very very good. Lovely hotel bars and first class entertainment available through the year. All in all it is fair to call this hotel one of the leading hotels in the World, they work hard at it....very well done.
My wife and I were looking for a relaxing place to stay and this ticked all the boxes. We went the week before christmas and I think it was half full. From the moment we arrived at the entrance to the hotel and were greeted by name from the smartly dressed staff we knew we were in for a treat. I cannot emphasise the quality of the staff. They were great and most attentive. For those of you that know the 1960's tv cult programme The Prisoner, this is just like it. Instead of the Portmerion village this is one in the sun. Lovely grounds and a beautiful building which I would describe as in a terracota style which was spotless. Smashing. Our room overlooked the gardens and had the sun in the morning. A lovely place to sit on the balcony. The room was not huge but big enough for our needs. The bed was big, a bit hard for our liking, but am sure the hotel could provide softer covers. It came with a turn down service with chocolates. There are several restaurants on the site which you need to book but that depends on how many people are on site. The restaurants are top class and give a great service. Every night there is a buffet restaurant with a different international theme. It is great with a wide selection. No need to book. Breakfast is equally amazing. Dining inside or out. The choices are manyfold. There is a spa facility which you pay extra for. It is great but does not have a lot of sun. It is in the wrong place for that. The pool is heated and there is a steam room and sauna. Treatments are available but expensive. The outside experience is wonderful. Attentive staff providing towels and refreshments. Many pools to choose from and a dedicated childrens one. Night time entertainment is on hand with magicians and all sorts of dancing and music experiences. This is a place to enjoy luxury and great service. You want to relax and be treated like royalty, then this is for you.
Third visit and it gets better every time!
If you like a traditional resort, then this is for you. My husband and I have visited this hotel three times over four years. Fantastic hotel, gorgeous grounds, relaxing pools, exquisite restaurants, but more than anything, such attentive, polite, warm staff. It’s the people who work there that make the experience; nothing is too much trouble. If you want a worry-free holiday, this is the place for you!
