The Best Beaches In Corfu
Corfu is a master of contrasts. This narrow, curling island serves up wild cliffs on one coast and still, glassy bays on the other. You’ll find soft-sand beaches made for long swims, tucked-away coves you can reach only on foot and waterfront tavernas serving grilled fish and carafes of wine. From west coast icons to hidden coves in the north, these are some of the best beaches in Corfu.
Paleokastritsa – best for picture-perfect bays
A cluster of emerald coves surrounded by cypress-topped hills, Paleokastritsa is Corfu’s poster child for good reason. The sea here shifts from turquoise to deep sapphire and glass-bottom boats glide between rocky inlets and sea caves. It’s great for snorkelling and scenic swims, with viewpoints that rival anywhere in the Ionian. Climb up to the Paleokastritsa Monastery just above the bay, where whitewashed arches frame some of the best views on the island.
Porto Timoni – best for an A-list view
Seen from above, Porto Timoni is camera-ready; two crescent coves back-to-back, divided by a sliver of green headland. It’s reached by a 20-minute walk down from Afionas village, a scenic trail through olive groves that opens onto clear blue water on both sides. Pack sturdy shoes and plenty of snacks and water; the hike down is worth it for a swim between twin seas.
Glyfada Beach – best for golden sands
On Corfu’s west coast, Glyfada is a classic Greek beauty with a long curve of golden sand backed by pine-covered hills and lapped by pale, sunlit water. It’s lively but never too busy, with plentiful sunbeds, water sports and beach bars. Wander south to the far end of the beach where the crowds thin out. Stay nearby at Domes of Corfu, Autograph Collection, for five-star comfort and the island’s best sunset views.
Dassia Bay – best for resort luxury
On Corfu’s east coast, Dassia’s balmy waters and sweeping views across to mainland Greece make it a favourite for relaxed days by the sea. The beach here is a mix of sand and smooth pebbles, shaded by olive trees and edged with wooden jetties. Rent a motorboat to explore hidden coves towards Barbati, or take a sunset paddleboard session when the light turns the bay molten gold. Stay at Ikos Dassia, Ikos Odisia and Grecotel Eva Palace, all restful havens that give all-inclusive a glossy new edit.
Kassiopi – best for a taste of old Corfu
On Corfu’s northeast tip, Kassiopi is a lively harbour town backed by some of the island’s prettiest coves. Fishing boats bob in the harbour, and a string of rocky coves, including Kanoni, Bataria and Kassiopi Beach, are perfect for long swims in jewel-clear water. Follow the coastal path towards Avlaki for tranquil swimming spots and knockout views across to Albania. Stay at MarBella Nido for an adults-only hideaway or at Grecotel LUXME Costa Botanica for family fun by the sea.
