Booking a holiday is an exciting experience with Kuoni but it’s always good to be travel smart and research travel advice, travel safety and FCDO advice before you book. Here are a few handy tips from our travel experts with links to useful resources.
If you’re looking at a particular destination for your holiday, visit the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office’s Travel Aware site for foreign travel advice, where you can sign up to email alerts and follow the FCDO on social media for updates.
Check the validity of your passport. Some countries require your passport to be valid for six months after the date you travel.
You can check the destination you’re interested in on the UK government’s website. All children now need their own passport and, if you’re applying for a passport for the first time, you will need to attend an interview at HM Passport Office. It may take up to six weeks to receive your first passport.
Make sure it is possible to get comprehensive travel insurance before you book your holiday. The British embassy, high commission or consulate will not pay for medical care, so make sure you choose a quality policy. You can also register for a European Health Card.

If you are booking a self-drive or want to hire a car while on holiday, ensure your driving licence is valid and you have applied for an International Driving Permit required by some non-EU countries.
We can make recommendations for the best time to visit a destination based on past weather patterns but we cannot be responsible for the weather during your holiday. Please do your own research before you choose a destination.

Holidays are all about new experiences and it’s a great opportunity to enjoy local food, but different foods can occasionally result in stomach upsets and feeling unwell. To prevent any illness on holiday remember to stay hydrated and try to avoid long periods in the sun – it’s a good idea to have a hat and sunscreen to hand.
If you do become ill whilst you’re away, make sure you let your representative or our staff in resort know and they will put you in touch with a local doctor (contact details are in your travel documents). If you think your illness was caused by something you ate at your hotel, you’ll need evidence to support this from the doctor you see in resort. If you feel you have reason to make a complaint or claim about a holiday illness you must be able to show you’ve followed these steps. Some recent high profile cases have highlighted fraudulent claims for sickness whilst on holiday. If you’re approached by anyone claiming they can get you compensation, please let us know so that we can work with fraud investigators to help prevent and detect fraud. Contact your representative or firstname.lastname@example.org with any information.
