Days 1-4

La Gomera

La Gomera – which also answers to Isla Magica or the magical island – gives rugged beauty in spades. It’s also home to some pretty ancient laurel forests that UNESCO have considered important enough to bestow World Heritage status; you’ll certainly notice how green the island is compared to its Canaries cousins. This is a place to come for peace, Jurassic Park vibes, black-sand beaches and traditions that go back centuries. If the thought of doing nothing makes you bounce off the walls, pack your hiking boots – the island is criss-crossed by miles upon miles of trails; the area around Roque de Agando, a striking volcanic plug (the same type of formation that Edinburgh Castle sits on) and natural monument that dominates the landscape.

Days 5-8

Tenerife

It’s time to catch the ferry back to Tenerife for a livelier beach scene but equally as spectacular scenery, it’s home to Spain’s highest peak after all. If you want sunshine, sea, sand and some serious down time, you’ve got it - you’ll be based in the south of the island, so the sun-kissed, fun-loving resorts where foothills meet the Atlantic are right on your doorstep. But there’s a different side to the island if you want a side of exploration with your beach time. The volcanic Teide National Park is the landscape poster child and where you’ll find the already mentioned mountain. Get your walking shoes back on and explore the park on foot, taking in the clean air, the endemic vegetation and the breathtaking vistas.
