Surrounded by magnificent parkland, experience the opulence of staying in an historical building.
For over 160 years the world’s most powerful and respected citizens have been attracted to this opulent palace with its extensive gardens, views over the lake and Borromean Islands and restorative spa. With the lake to the front and beautiful rolling hills to the rear, not only is the hotel striking, the natural surroundings are too. There are two swimming pools, a walled Japanese garden and beautifully carved statues representing figures of Greek and Roman mythology. Within the hotel itself is the tranquil spa which features a sauna and Turkish bath and an indoor pool with hydro-massage area. Across the road you will find the lakeshore and a small public beach area.
Why we love Grand Hotel Des Iles Borromees & Spa
-
Grand Hotel Des Iles Borromees has been welcoming guests including royalty, dignatories and celebrities for over 160 years.
-
The grandest hotel on Lake Maggiore, Grand Hotel Des Iles Borromees has retained many of its original architectural features that have been impressively restored.
-
The extensive landscaped gardens were created in 1863 by Antonio Polli. Some of the original trees are still standing proud amongst the ornate flower beds and waterlily-filled ponds.
-
Ernest Hemingway was a former guest and mentions the hotel, bar and its martini in his classic novel, A Farewell to Arms.
Rooms
As would be expected, the 179 rooms and suites here reflect the grandeur of the hotel with both grand interiors and beautiful views. Il Borromeo is the hotel’s elegant restaurant for fine dining every day. When the weather is pleasant the doors are opened on to the delightful terrace which is surrounded by the greenery and has views towards the lake. Each morning breakfast is casual, while dinner is a more elegant affair and local dishes are served. For between-meal bites there’s a snack bar located close to the outdoor pools.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all served at Il Borromeo. The lakeside setting is decadent and the menu selection is varied with international and Italian favourites.
