Jetwing St. Andrew's

Charming old-world hotel

Once a grand private home, this is a delightful base for discovering Sri Lanka’s ‘Little England’

Tucked away amid the lush green hills of Nuwara Eliya, Jetwing St. Andrew’s is a beautiful colonial mansion with an air of faded grandeur, steeped in history and imbued with a sense of comfort and well-being. For times when you are not out exploring local tea plantations, there are plenty of peaceful spots in which to relax with a good book; there’s also a snooker room with an antique table. The hotel is situated next to the Nuwara Eliya Golf Club, perfect for those looking to enjoy a round of golf or two.

Why we love Jetwing St. Andrew's

  • Staying here is like an immersive history lesson that combines the best aspects of the building’s heritage with modern comforts

  • You’re surrounded by beautifully landscaped formal gardens, with views of tea-clad hills beyond

  • You can spend the evening on a unique frog-watching tour with the resident naturalist in the resort’s manmade wetland area

  • Golfers will appreciate the fact that the hotel adjoins one of the island’s oldest and best-loved 18-hole courses

There’s a restaurant with an extensive menu, a snug and welcoming bar and somewhere to enjoy the finest local teas.

Old Course Restaurant
A buffet breakfast and à la carte lunch and dinner are served at the main restaurant. Start the day with a traditional English breakfast, continental far or authentic Sri Lankan dishes. At lunch and dinner, both local and international cuisine is served à la carte.  You can dine inside, or on warm days out on the terrace or in the pretty gardens.

Road Hole Bar
At the cosy old-world bar, you can enjoy a range of wines, beers and spirits as well as a selection of cocktails and mocktails until late.

The Tea Terrace
When nothing will do but a cuppa, this intimate space offers views through the floor-to-ceiling windows or the terrace and a range of artisanal teas.

Don’t miss the nostalgic delights of an old-fashioned afternoon tea on the lawn, one of the Signature Dining experiences.

At the hotel itself, there’s nothing more strenuous on offer than a game of snooker on an antique table, but there are bicycles for hire for exploring the hilly surroundings and there are some fabulous hiking trails in the area.

The hot water in the room is produced by the on-site biomass boiler, which uses sustainably harvested cinnamon wood. All wastewater is carefully treated before being used to irrigate the gardens. The grounds contain a model wetland, which is home to several endemic and critically endangered amphibians. The resort has an organic vegetable garden complete with a greenhouse and several working beehives.
