One of the latest additions to the glorious Elounda coastline is Domes Aulūs, a grown-up’s retreat with a private beach that’s unpretentious and causally chic. Its hillside setting means that there are some epic views to go alongside the enviable slow-living vibe: the Gulf of Mirabello and world-renowned and UNESCO-protected island of Spinalonga are a perfect ever-present backdrop. The style and architecture have been influenced by the now crumbling Venetian city made famous by Victoria Hislop’s story in mind – the tones here are muted and natural – but with definitive 21st Century elements such as clean lines and modern facilities and a real focus on wellness.

There’s a real focus on island-sourced and sustainable produce at all the resort’s dining venues from catch-of-the-day seafood to vegetable and seasonings grown in botanic gardens. Start the day with some sunrise, sea view yoga before breakfast, a meal packed with local and international delights: there’s nothing quite like Greek yoghurt and honey and locally sourced fruit to fuel your morning. Following a full day of adventures or rejuvenation, we love heading up to the rooftop Greco Levante The Grilia, the resort’s marketplace where street food-style dishes from around the world are served al fresco. Sink into the comfy bean bags and fill up on full-of-flavour Greek, Asian and Italian cuisine.

The Island
Domes Aulūs’s main restaurant is open for a continental or American breakfast as well as a Greek and Mediterranean buffet-style lunch and dinner.

Amphiteatro Tesoro Mio & PITA Canteen
Comprising two open-air dining venues, one Greek, one Italian. Both are utterly irresistible and have views of the Aegean Sea.

Meze Means to Share
A Greek Taverna based on a food market concept with a large selection of sharing platters to choose from. Lunch is served here on a first come, first serve basis.

Greco Levante The Grilia
Exclusive to Cool Living Selection guests, Greco Levante is a poolside buffet and bar with barbeque evenings.

Bars
There are three bars dotted around the resort: Ammos Beach Canteen, which is located on the beach; Blu Bar which can be found next to the resort’s lobby; and the fresh Agora Bar, which has jaw-dropping 360-degree views of the sea, mountains, and islands.

The award-winning Soma Spa draws inspiration from the spa treatments of the ancient Greeks, complemented with modern healing techniques and products. Try Minoan Strength: The Mythology Spa Massage Ceremony which used local botanical herbs and a body scrub sourced from the region’s Carob trees. There’s also a sauna, steam bath, heated indoor pool and a jacuzzi.

For fitness, there’s a fully equipped gym and a full programme of classes including daily sunrise yoga, Pilates, and functional training for a full body workout.

Make the most of the clifftop pools (one that’s exclusive to Cool Living Section guests), the private beach that’s located just across the road, or the signature experiences on offer. These include boat trips, mountain biking, hiking, olive oil tasting and cooking classes.

Domes Aulūs Elounda has a private sandy/pebble beach – perfect for paddling. There’s a water sports centre (at an extra charge) beside Ammos Beach Canteen with a range of activities available, including water skiing, sailing, and canoeing. For a loftier view, head to the large saltwater pool where there’s sunbed service for drinks and snacks.

Guests are invited to get hands on with the resort’s sustainability initiatives and learn about the conservation of the local habitat.
