Amor Arenal

Volcano views and spring water pools

Ravishing rainforest retreat overlooking Arenal Volcano, where wellness takes priority and the wonders of the jungle come to life.

It’s mostly macaws, toucans and hummingbirds that will share Amor Arenal’s magical views with you. Spring water pools are tucked into the tropics and rainforest spa therapists will sugar cane scrub you in the most outstanding of ways. Dine with volcano views, sip guaro sours at sunset and wrap the night up in your show-stopping casita complete with panoramic windows and an outdoor thermal hot tub.

Why we love Amor Arenal

  • Each of the 31 standalone casitas has double rain showers and an outdoor hot tub

  • The hotel’s Serenity and Nanciton rainforest hiking trails are worth every wild and wonderful step

  • Three mineral spring pools – one for lounging, one with cool water and one with a swim-up bar

Amor Arenal’s restaurants serve organic, grass-fed, seasonal and authentic food in rainforest surrounds. There are two restaurants, El Rancho and Tico Grill, both with bars attached to them. You can swim and sip at the main pool where you’ll find a fabulous sunken bar, or duck into La Granea, a cosy nook for coffees, breads and pastries.

El Rancho
The hotel’s main restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The menu takes you around the world with a Latin American twist and also offers a fantastic Costa Rican tasting menu. Look out for mixologists wheeling wooden drinks carts around the restaurant, whipping up cocktails at your table.

La Jaranita
La Jarinta is attached to Tico Grill and features a small plate menu and a creative selection of cocktails infused with Costa Rica’s famous Cacique Guaro sugar-cane liquor.

Tico Grill
Fun, fabulous and colourful Tico Grill is open every night for dinner. Each table is outfitted with a mini grill so you can toast your own tortillas tableside.

El Rancho Bar
Set inside the main restaurant, El Rancho Bar is the place to settle down for single-malt whiskeys and aged-rums after a day of hiking rainforest trails.

La Granea
Need a sweet treat or a perfectly roasted coffee? This pocket-sized spot is where you’ll make a stop for homemade pastries and breads with a side of caffeine.

Wet Bar
Dive into the heated spring water pool and enjoy tropical cocktails all day every day at the swim-up Wet Bar.

What's included

Breakfast at El Rancho

The open-air treatment rooms at Amor Arenal’s spa overlook a canopy of trees so you can recharge and rebalance with rainforest views. The Ayurvedic treatments are exceptional; try the Sleepy Sloth Experience for a back, neck and scalp massage with a continuous stream of warm oil poured over your forehead to relieve stress.

Set high above the forest canopy, the mediation deck is the place to be for moments of quiet reflection. The hotel also offers a daily complimentary yoga session and self-led classes with on-demand videos.

Rooms are kitted out with yoga mats and kettlebells and the fitness pavilion features cardio machines, training equipment and weights.

Amor Arenal is single-use plastic free, has water bottle filling stations and uses energy-efficient LED lighting in most areas. Inside, the casitas feature sustainable native hardwoods and are stocked with refillable toiletries. Organic local produce, farm-to-table menus and responsibly sourced seafood are offered in the restaurants and food waste is donated or composted.
