Barbados & Dominica

This holiday is a game of two halves, where you’ll compare the Caribbean classic of Barbados with Dominica’s rainforest, waterfalls, and volcanic landscapes.

This Barbados-and-Dominica trip is for when you want the Caribbean with a bit more adventure built in. Start in Barbados, where a direct flight brings you to calm beaches, good food, and gorgeous sunsets, making the first few days feel easy from the off. Then fly north-west to Dominica, a true darling of the Caribbean, with the direct island hop taking around an hour, for one of the region’s most nature-rich islands. Here, let your days be shaped around rainforest adventures, hot-spring dips, and cooling drenchings beneath incredible waterfalls.

Days 1-4

Barbados

Barbados eases you into the trip, with the west coast offering calm waters, relaxed places to eat, and a simple start to your first few days after the flight. You could simply swim, take a slow breakfast, join a wellness activity, head out for lunch under a parasol somewhere, but if you’re itching to discover more, we’d recommend a luxury catamaran cruise to spend a day on the water, with snorkelling stops, sea views, and lunch on board. Otherwise, a private car and driver is a smart option, giving you a way to see more of the island without hiring a car or working out the roads yourself. Factor in a trip to Speightstown, a historic port town on the north-west coast, for a more local feel, colourful streets, waterfront views, independent cafés, and places for lunch.

Luxury Catamaran Cruise
Barbados

There’s nothing quite as relaxing as sailing through calm, azure waters on a luxury catamaran with a crew to cater to your every whim. You’ll travel along Barbados’s pristine western shore - nicknamed the Platinum Coast thanks to its dazzlingly pale sandy beaches - with stops in quiet, sheltered bays along the way. Here you’ll have the chance to snorkel over shipwrecks teeming with multicoloured fish or maybe even swim with sea turtles: Barbados is home to three different species. Between stops, you can soak up the sun on the deck or cool off in the shade with a drink from the all-day bar. As for food, there’s a delicious buffet-style lunch served on board with something to suit all tastes.

Good to know
It’s a perfect trip for honeymooners and families alike, but for maximum enjoyment we recommend that any children are old enough to be confident in the water. Be sure to bring enough sun cream, hats and sunglasses for everyone; the sun’s rays reflected on the water are extra strong.

Barbados Your Way (Car & Driver) - Half Day
Barbados

Enjoy the freedom of having your own wheels, but without the stress, by hiring a car with a driver to take you wherever you choose. There’s a lot to discover, and you’ll be amazed at what you’ll be able to pack into four hours. You could head down narrow country lanes into the hilly interior, pausing at roadside stalls for coconut water fresh from the husk and stopping wherever you want to take photos. Maybe you’d prefer to make for a secluded cove that just happens to have one of the best beach shacks - and the tastiest flying-fish sandwiches - in Barbados. Whatever you opt for, you’ll know that the person behind the wheel knows exactly where they are, and can give you a local perspective on it. It’s a superb option for anyone travelling with children or couples who want to learn more about the island.

Barbados Your Way (Car & Driver) - Full Day
Barbados

Tailor-make your dream island tour with a private car and driver for the day. This is your chance to dive deep into the island’s culture, see its major sites and get off the beaten track with a local to guide you to those hidden gems. You could take in a visit to a historic grand plantation house or a fabulous botanic garden; have a surfing lesson or a gentle swim at a beach only the Bajans know about; and fit in a spot of shopping at some of the many craft shops and stalls along the way. You’ll have plenty of time for a lazy lunch that’s as chic or casual as you want - your driver can recommend somewhere if you’re not sure where to go. It’s a perfect choice for anyone looking for a truly memorable experience of Barbados.

Days 5-8

Dominica

From Barbados, fly to Dominica where the scenery does the talking. This is the Caribbean at its greenest and most dramatic, with volcanic peaks, rainforest, waterfalls, hot springs, and a coastline that begs to be kayaked and snorkelled. The next few days can be as active or relaxed as you like, with land and water adventures, a national park, volcanic waters, and time by the sea all in the mix. Dominica is the wow of this trip: steam rising from hot springs, rainforest trails, clear water offshore, and the feeling that you’ve reached a Caribbean island with real edge.
