Barbados & The Grenadines

Barbados’ vibrant atmosphere sings to your soul, while the old-worldliness the Grenadines brings a breather from life’s hustle and bustle on this Caribbean combo.

With its sprawling sandy stretches, crystal-clear waters and lush, verdant landscapes, it’s no wonder why the Caribbean is such a popular vacation spot. The culture here varies from island to island, making every resort unique, and thanks to a neverending melting pot of things to see and do, dull moments simply don’t exist. For the ultimate escape from reality, we recommend a twin-island trip to Barbados & the Grenadines.

Barbados

Barbados is famous for its natural beauty, and it’s not difficult to see why. This place serves up spectacular scenery in heaploads, with powder-white beaches, crystal-clear waters and craggy cliff tops as far as the eye can see. Still, it’s so much more than just a pretty face, and while you’ll never tire of those jaw-dropping vistas, it’s home to plenty of lesser-known treasures and charms, too. If you’re keen to box off some tourist hotspots, make a beeline for The Animal Flower Cave and Harrison’s Cave. The Coral Land Formation is well worth seeing, too, and if you want to know what lies beneath those sparkling shores, Carlisle Bay’s marine park is a must-visit. The cuisine is top notch here, too. So, if you’re a flavour loving foodie, then you’re in for a treat. Or, if you’re in the mood for a liquid lunch, where better to indulge your senses than the birthplace of rum? Sample the spirit in its motherland and immerse yourself in the magic of Barbados’ colourful heritage.

Mount Gay Rum Experience
Barbados

Mount Gay is the oldest rum distillery in Barbados, and its historic buildings surrounded by sugarcane fields in St Lucy, in the north of Barbados, are still in use today. At its beautiful open-air visitor centre in Bridgetown, you can learn all about the rum maker’s impressive 300-year history. You’ll discover the various different steps required to turn molasses - a by-product of making sugar - and water into the finished product, which have barely changed over the centuries, and have a chance to sample some of the brand’s signature rums.

At the end of the tour you’ll be served a light Bajan-style lunch overlooking the sea, before a final stop at the shop to pick up a bottle to take home.

• Duration: half day
• Daily departures
• Operates year round
• Group experience

Good to know
Although the tour is open to under 18s, we think it’s more suitable for couples, groups and honeymooners.

The Grenadines

Conclude your Caribbean getaway with a soul-soothing stay in the Grenadines. This palm-fringed volcanic oasis is washed with warm, aquamarine waters and sprinkled with black sandy beaches made for barefoot strolls. If you’re here for heartstopping views, then the balmy sunsets and rugged mountainscapes won’t disappoint, and for the self-professed thrill-seekers, the selection of diving spots are perfect for an adrenaline-fuelled afternoon. Avid adventurers will relish the opportunity to visit St Vincent’s active volcano, La Soufriere, while laid-back explorers will love the go-slow pace of the Grenadines. We have beautiful hotels in both, so whether you’re chomping at the bit for thrills and spills or you prefer to laze back at the lap of the waves, your swanky stay will keep you suitably luxuriated from dusk till dawn.
