Set in the heart of Stone Town amid exotic sultan's palaces and ancient dhow harbours, the Zanzibar Serena Hotel is a pocket of peace overlooking the Indian Ocean. With an elegant Swahili style, it’s also a member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World. There’s a short stretch of public beach in front of the hotel where you can watch as locals go about their daily life, or for more private sunbathing head to the lovely pool terrace overlooking the ocean.

Rooms and suites are elegantly furnished in traditional Zanzibar style, with locally carved furniture and shuttered windows. The colour scheme is cool and calming, with white walls and linens and splashes of ocean blue.
Each of the Standard Rooms is packed with Swahili influences with carved woodwork, antiques and shuttered windows.

Designed so that the dhows sail right past its windows, the Baharia Restaurant offers all-day international and Swahili cuisine, while the Terrace Seafood Restaurant is a romantic rooftop restaurant overlooking the bay.

The à la carte restaurant has a wonderful setting where you can watch the passing dhows as you dine.

Head to the rooftop for seafood accompanied by incredible ocean views.
Masahani Bar
Serving light snacks and a range of signature cocktails with live Taarab music.
Don't miss the weekly poolside Swahili banquet hosted by the Baharia Restaurant.
What's Included
Breakfast at the all-day Baharia Restaurant
After exploring the alleyways of Stone Town, relax tired muscles with a visit to the Maisha Spa where therapists provide a range of massages.
You are perfectly placed to explore UNESCO World Heritage Stone Town either under your own steam on a guided tour which includes a visit to the Freddie Mercury Museum. Tours can also be arranged to Jozani Forest.
The hotel has direct access to the public beach. Day trips can be arranged to Pange Sandbank or you can take a cruise to Kazimkazi fishing villages where bottlenose dolphins can often be seen.
As it is an historic building, the Zanzibar Serena Inn does not have a lift and is therefore not suitable for guests with walking difficulties.
