Ocean Point Resort & Spa
Ocean Point Resort & Spa sits right on Antigua’s northern coastline, only a short drive from the island’s largest city, Saint John’s. Once home to a strategic naval fort, the historic port capital is known for the striking white baroque towers of its cathedral, and this hotel is just as aesthetically pleasing. A wonderfully traditional reception area welcomes you on arrival, flanked by tropical palm trees and complete with pillars and chandeliers. Your post-dinner stroll down to the beach is made easier by winding, beautifully lit wooden walkways, while the open poolside bar provides spectacular views over the Atlantic Ocean and unspoilt Caribbean sands.
The hotel’s Sottovento Beach Club Restaurant serves up Italian and Mediterranean-inspired cuisine, from fresh fish to light salads. Modern but understated, with stylish vaulted ceilings and a sheltered terrace, it’s also a fantastic spot to drink in the sea views. When it comes to activities, you’ll be spoilt for choice. A short shuttle bus ride away in Saint John’s, you’ll find the island’s sole rum distillery plus The Antigua and Barbuda Museum, housed in a 1750s’ colonial courthouse. Sports-enthusiasts will love the pristine white sands of nearby Jabberwock Beach – home to Kitesurf Antigua – and Dickenson’s Bay (only 10 minutes’ drive from Ocean Point). And don’t miss a visit to the eccentrically-named Prickly Pear Island; a five-minute boat trip from Hodges Bay, this tiny islet’s exquisite clear waters make it a haven for swimming and snorkelling.
The rooms have a distinctly Mediterranean feel, with elegant floor tiles and rustic furniture. Whether you opt for a garden or an ocean view, a private balcony or patio in each room will give you more than just a taste of the revitalising Caribbean air. An Ocean Front Room is a great upgrade option, with its unrestricted ocean views.
