Nice adults only resort with a good beach.
We were welcomed by friendly satff and offered a refreshing face towels and drink. Our room was the top category and was newly renovated. great size bedroom area with an adjoining living room. Bathroom was very large with shower and large bathtub. The terrace was large and contained 2 lounge chairs and table. All rooms face the water and are on the beach. we prefer 2nd floor rooms. There is no room service and no bar or food service on the beach. But there are restaurants and a bar close to the beach. The pool area is nice with a beautiful rock waterfall. Lots of lounge chairs on the beach and at the pool. Was never a problem. We found that the food was good ....but not great and choices were fairly limited.
Honeymoon Gone Wrong
I stayed at the Galley Bay for 8 nights in late July into early August 2019. The resort grounds had potential to live to up to the reviews but I have to say my wife and I were very disappointed and thought about checking into another resort mid way through our trip. Let me just start off by saying that I have stayed at all inconclusive resorts all around the Caribbean and this one just never met our expectations. The biggest problem with the resort is all the limitations. When you go on vacation and your honeymoon no less, you do not want to worry about the clock. At Galley Bay, you better have a watch on if you want to eat. The times you can eat and not eat for that matter are ridiculous considering you have people traveling from all different time zones. The last thing I want to do is to set an alarm when I am on my honeymoon. The food isn't bad when you actually can eat but you better make a reservation and if you don't set an alarm to wake up early you likely wont get one. Also, I asked where I can get food after 10:30pm and I was looked at like I was crazy. The beach is great but there is no service on the beach, not too mention any room service. One of the biggest issues is the water situation. There is no bottled water available to you at this resort. They give you a water bottle that you fill up at designated stations. The water taste like chlorine and it is not pleasant. You can make a fuss about it and they may give you a water bottle but expect a bunch of push back and attitude. I agree with someone on here that said this place has an eerie feel. It definitely does, it is so quiet its really weird. I am not asking for blaring music but silence is just not something you would expect at a bar or by the pool. The customer service is also hit or miss as you cannot tip so that is reflected in the attitudes of the employees. I can also confirm that there are cockroaches flying around and we had a spider in our room the size of my hand. Not exaggerating. We ran into other couples who said they had Spiders and cockroaches in there rooms as well. Also, a strict dress code is enforced. I was told repeatedly to take my hat off or I needed pants even though other people staying at the resort had hats on with shorts..The excursions are the only thing that saved our honeymoon. There is a Speedboat around the island. Its a bit pricey but do it. You will not regret it. I was not even going to write this review but if I save one couples honeymoon from having the same fate as mine, I feel like it would be worth it. Don't believe the hype, we spent over 6k to stay here and I have stayed at better places for a fraction of that amount. We wanted to love this place and make great memories but it just fell short in every way. We are going to redo our honeymoon later this year because we felt like we did not get the experience we should have. I am expecting a cold and borderline rude rebuttal from the hotel on this review but that just goes to show you what type of pretentious people are running this business.
Simply wonderful, great service, food, environment ...... everything you could wish for. The hotel was totally geared up to serve at the highest level whilst remaining personal and informal . Would wish to return.
Idyllic setting, high level of service, great food
It was our first visit to Galley Bay Resort and to the island of Antigua and it exceeded our expectations. It was everything that we wanted in an island getaway -- quiet resort -- adults only -- great food -- friendly staff -- all inclusive. We stayed in one of the 'Gauguin Suites' -- while not right on the beach (as some of the other units are), it offered quiet, privacy, and its own small 'plunge pool'. There were many activities right at the Resort, or, they offered a variety of optional excursions (priced separately). We very much enjoyed the afternoon excursion with 'Caption Sean' on his sailboat, which ended with a lovely sunset. Overall a wonderful week.
Still Superb in most ways...
7th time visiting so you will guess we love the place. Still do and probably always will. Staff are great whether long serving or new. Only issues are... Wedding market they are tapping into... To me this detracts from what Galley Bay is all about. We got married here so hypocritical to say this? No. Small weddings family members. Great. 12 plus lunatics that want to play music round the pool, have drinks in the pool and generally disturb the peace and tranquility that Galley Bay is supposed to be about... Hard to find a complete peaceful relaxing resort so please get back to that A lot of jet skis around now from a neighbouring resort. This is going to result in a serious accident before long and again detracts from the peace. GB can’t do much about this we know apart from discouraging the drinks in the pool crowd who think they are a good idea.... One gripe but a big one Everything else is awesome. Love it food great. Staff fantastic! Run bar could do with a lift to get people to use it more. Don’t know how if I’m honest but I’d not. I can see that being closed down which would be a shame. Hope to go back next year but at the price it is elsewhere will be looked at very closely for sure...
