Wonderful, special place - hidden gem in Antigua
We booked the Galley Bay hotel for our 30th wedding anniversary as we wanted somewhere which was special and not too big. We were not disappointed, it was wonderful. From the moment you arrive you feel like you are entering an exclusive hotel as you are driven across the lake to the hotel. The grounds are wonderful and the way it's set out with all the deluxe rooms right on the beach is very similar to a hotel we stayed in on the Maldives. We stayed in a deluxe room right on the beach with your own allocated sun loungers. The shower in the bathroom is enormous with a walk in wardrobe, balcony with day beds and very comfortable bed. We particularly liked the fact that the meals are served to you at your table rather than buffet style and the food is fantastic (particularly the eggs Benedict for breakfast). We would also recommend the Gaugain restaurant where you have your own thatched cabana, again the food is great. The all inclusive is exactly that, with all the food and drinks including premium brands. The beach is beautiful and although the sea can be a bit choppy you can absolutely swim and snorkel, but take care with the drop as you go into the sea. What makes this hotel, is the amazing staff, who genuinely want to ensure that you have the best time. Cedric the manager was always visible and keen to get feedback and checking if there is anything else he can do for us. A fantastic example of great management. Another treat is is the spa which was really relaxing and great pedicure. A really special memory for me is the morning Yoga at the Pavilion which is right on the beach, with Mackenzie who is a fantastic yoga teacher. What a great way to start each day. The water activities are also really good, and we had Savira the water sports guy take us out on a mini catamaran which was lovely. If you are looking to be thoroughly spoiled then Galley Bay won't disappoint. We would love to come back one day and lots of guests are 'returners' which speaks volumes. Thank you Galley Bay for make our Anniversary so special. Ian and Nicki Wood
The perfect place to relax and recharge your batteries
We were so fortunate finding Galley Bay in 2013 and the fact that we have returned 9 times in the past 10 years from the UK shows how much we love the resort. From the moment you arrive at the reception the warm greeting you receive immediately puts you at ease. As you pass over the wooden bridge over the lagoon all your worries start to fade and we will never forget the first time we saw the beach on our way to the room. Our choice of rooms are the upstairs premium beachfront suites due to the higher ceilings in these rooms as opposed to the ground floor rooms which enable you to step straight out onto the beach. The rooms are spotless and well maintained. The minibar is well stocked and you can ask for extra drinks if needed. The menu choice will satisfy most palates and the tuna and marlin dishes are our favourites. Much of the fruit and vegetables are grown on site and a tour around the gardens is a must. There is a choice of 3 restaurants most evenings. Ismays is the fine dining option which needs to be booked and has a surcharge. The Seagrape is open for breakfast, lunch and evening meal with The Gauguin being open for lunch and evening meal. There is also the Barefoot Grill if you fancy a quick bite at lunch time. The refurbished coffee shop is a perfect spot for a Beveridge, sandwich, piece of cake or a cookie. The ice creams were a daily treat! The sea can be quite rough as stated in other reviews but if you choose your entry and exit points on the beach this problem can be negated. Watersports include kayaks, paddle boards, windsurfing and sailing. If you like snorkeling it is best at the Ismays end of the beach. The staff are all so friendly and work very hard to make your stay memorable. It is really difficult to single out any particular member of staff as they are all so welcoming and friendly. The gardeners, maintenance men, maids and cooks contribute to the great experience as do the front of house staff. There is entertainment every night with a mix of music. Mr Move the fire-breathing limbo dancer alongside the steel band is popular as is The Spirited Band. To help burn off some of the calories you consume there is a well equipped gym, a jogging trail and tennis courts. You can also walk to the nearby Fort and there are bikes you can use also We have travelled alot but Galley Bay is always the place we want to return to without any hesitation. If you want a relaxing holiday, with great accommodation, friendly staff and excellent food Galley Bay is the place to go, so much so we are returning later this year for our 10th visit!
Beautiful Resort. Will definitely return.
I had been looking at this property before and during Covid. Loved that it isn’t a mega hotel, and loved that you can get to the beach directly from our room. Our room, a premium beachfront, was large and lovely, but the washroom could use a renovation. I know that some of the rooms have been renovated, but ours wasn’t one of them. This did not take away from our wonderful experience. The staff were lovely, the food was fantastic—I gained a few pounds, and the water activities were wonderful.
A perfect holiday
Everything about Galley Bay was perfect. We have been to several places in the Caribbean and Galley Bay is at the top of the list. What makes it stand out is the friendliness of the staff. Many of them made a point of remembering our names, but all were very attentive and helpful. We love the beach and water sports there as they really take the time to help you get the most out of it. The food was delicious with a lot of variety and we really liked ordering off menus (no buffets). We stayed in the Gauguin suites which was very spacious with a fabulous patio and plunge pool.
We had 12 days at Galley Bay at the beginning of June. The whole experience was excellent. It’s a very relaxing adults only resort. The all inclusive food and drinks were very good. The restaurants are all table service, and generally this was ok, may be a couple of times we had to ask where our order was, to which it was chased up immediately. The beach is to die for, with free water sports. The only annoying thing being jet ski’s from other beaches buzzing up and down. Overall I would recommend this resort as a very relaxing holiday.
