Galley Bay remains the only all-inclusive resort we have visited and it certainly ticks many of the boxes. The resort is beautifully laid out, stretching along a 3/4 mile beach so that every room looks out on to the glorious beach and the Caribbean Sea, with the main restaurant and bars in the centre and two other restaurants at each end. The pool is set back but is in a spacious setting so there was always plenty of room and sun beds. Unlike the beach, the pool has a drinks service, but be warned, the resident family of cheeky whistling ducks have developed a taste for cocktail cherries so be on your guard! When we visited two years ago the sea bed was recovering from a devastating hurricane so swimming was out most days but things were much calmer this year and the waves made for a fun time in the sea. The sea sport team are happy to take non-sailers around the bay in a hoby cat and this proved to be one of the highlights of our stay. Another was Kurt's Tuesday garden tour - even if you are not into gardening this is too much fun to miss. The bars serve a wide range of branded drinks and a host of deceptively strong cocktails while there is live music each night until 11, provided by various very talented local groups. Of the hotel's three restaurants Ismays is only available at a supplement - we tried it once and thoroughly enjoyed it but, in an all-inclusive, you don't want to be paying for meals on a regular basis. At the other end of the resort is Gaugins, which is open for lunch and dinner with dining under individual umbrella covered cabanas. This is a delightful setting, especially in daylight, and as there are only a dozen tables the meals are cooked to order and to a high standard. Unfortunately, this does not apply to the main restaurant, The Sea Grapes. We enjoyed our meals there two years ago but the standard seemed to have dropped slightly and somehow the ambiance also left something to be desired, especially if you were seated deep in the characterless restaurant. The food was still OK but we expected better. Despite this one reservation we had a great time at Galley Bay, which like each and every one of its staff, was five stars in every other aspect.
Staff and food was excellent. There are 3 restaurants. One the Ismay, you have to pay supplement for which we didn't visit because food in the other 2 was very good. Did not need to make reservation for main dining room at any time.Beautiful sandy beach about half mile long. Sea can be rough making it quite difficult sometimes to clamber out, fairly typical of Caribbean beaches. Was our first visit following recommendation from friends. Had very enjoyable time and intend to go back next year
Living the Caribbean Life
Great people, Beautiful weather, Delicious food, Glorious sights. It's hard to put into words how the trip as a whole was just so right. Snorkeling, breakfast and dinner on the beach. We even played a few games of cricket with locals. It felt as if I had know these people for years. No worries man, just take it easy and enjoy the sights, warmth and the kindness of the people in Antigua.
Beautiful understated island elegance
Beautiful resort excellent service wonderful foods and adult beverages! The grounds are beautiful and eco friendly. Beautiful walkable swimming beach. Nightly live entertainment with hand crafted drinks under the stars It was a wonderful week.
Beautiful relaxing resort!
One of the most beautiful relaxing resorts we’ve ever been to! We had a premium beachfront room that was recently renovated, with an incredible view. (See photos) They also have a very nice pool area with drink service. Their is no service on the beach, but it’s a short walk to get your drinks. The food was very good, for an all inclusive. Your fridge is stocked with beer, soda and water; no hard liquor. If you’re looking to getaway and do nothing but relax, this is your place! Thanks to Sandy C. for making our stay extra special!!
