We were so pleased to return to our St. Lucian family. It was only covid restrictions that stopped us coming. It was only a little different to our previous visits. The main difference was there was no dancing due to the covid rules. On the positive side we really like the daily updates on the website., and you can check in on line. This enables you to see the menu for the day, activities and so much more. The staff are awesome as usual and remembered things about us such as our preferences about food and drink. Nothing is to much trouble and they will try to get you what ever you want. Oh wow we think the food is very good normally but oh the evening meals were exceptional. A massive thank you to Tadej, Linton, Harry and the rest of the kitchen staff. We are back on a countdown till our next visit at New Years, this will be our first visit at this time of year (🤞)can’t wait to come back
4.5 stars in beautiful East Winds
Firstly I want to say what a beautiful resort this is. We had ordered a hotel transfer as Covid restrictions were a bit of a worry. It was more than double the price of a local taxi but we had no cash and it was very convenient. We arrived just after 7.30pm and quickly checked into our room. It was pretty hot in the room and the air con was put on straight away, however, when we came back from dinner it was still hot in there. We realised the next day that it wasn’t working properly but after a full day on a boat trip, once reported, there was no engineer on site to fix but we were offered another room. We opted to stay put as too tired to pack and unpack again. Thankfully it was sorted swiftly the next morning and was then perfect. All the staff at East Winds are lovely, always smiling and very friendly. I think there were only 9 rooms full when we first arrived so always plenty of space at the pool, beach and restaurant. The grounds were immaculate and lovely to walk around. The pool area was very nice, comfy beds and lots of shade. There was a self serve bar there but due to Covid, you couldn’t use it. It was a shame there was no bell or phone to request a drink as sometimes it was quite a while until someone came to take orders. A minor issue I know and I’m sure the self serve bar is a lot of fun when available. The beach was lovely and Joe great with the water sports. Simeon was great with the trips, had a wonderful trip with him, seeing a huge pod of pilot whales too! Just amazing. My only real issue was the food. This was my first holiday following a vegan diet. I had emailed the hotel in advance to tell them and assured it wasn’t an issue, however when we sat down for dinner on the first night, and I informed the staff that evening, they seemed surprised but managed to whip up something which was very nice, and a simple pasta dish. The next morning at breakfast, there was no non dairy milk, no dairy free butter. I asked for hash browns and they said, they didn’t have any but they could get some. That never happened. I did get almond milk the next morning and I went to the supermarket the following day and bought vegan butter which I handed to the staff to place in their fridge and use as necessary, even suggesting a cake perhaps. I only ever got offered fruit for dessert and as much as I love fruit, it’s my holiday and I do like a bit of variety. Sorbet was mentioned but never materialised. I’m a keen cook and I have my chef daughter living with me at the moment, so I have a very varied diet. We are spoilt for choice in the UK so understand, it’s not the same in St Lucia. Although the chef tried, it just became a bit boring for me. In hindsight, I should of spoken to him but there was another guest who seemed to be complaining about anything and everything so I didn’t. However when we left east winds to go to another (cheaper) hotel, the chef there, went out of his way to speak to me, ordered tofu, sorbet and would of made me lots more things had I been staying longer. After this service, I felt it would of been nice if the chef had come and spoken to me to discuss my likes and tastes instead of just making me something he thinks I like. Our last night was our anniversary dinner and I had really hoped I’d get something special, but alas, fruit for dessert again and my main course was really not to my taste at all. I think at that point there were only another 6 to 8 guests so it wouldn’t of been difficult to speak to me and ask what I’d of liked, but like I said before, in hindsight I should of spoken up. My husband enjoyed his food and the wines, entertainment and setting was just lovely. Obviously us vegans are a minority so not an issue for the majority. My husband only had one meal he didn’t enjoy out of our 7 night stay. He also enjoyed the yoga and had 2 massages which he said were great. If you’re looking for a beautiful, peaceful location, lovely staff and an intimate feel, this is the perfect place. Even though my food was a bit of an issue, I had a lovely relaxing time and loved beautiful St Lucia and it’s people.
Beautiful place, great staff
East Winds is the most relaxing place to visit. From the moment we arrived, when the flight was over 2 hours late and the chefs stayed on to make sure we were fed, we knew the holiday would be great. The staff decorated our room as it was our 25th wedding anniversary and there was champagne waiting in our room. The staff are amazing at East Winds. They always have a smile on their faces and can't do enough to help. The rooms are spotless, we had one near reception which was up at the top of the gardens (still less than 2 minutes walk from the restaurant and bar). We did yoga- ran by a very experienced teacher and I had a pedicure which was brilliant and very good value for money. The food is great, cooked to order and with wine pairings at night. If you fancy something different, just ask and they will be pleased to prepare it for you. The entertainment on the evenings was chilled out and relaxing. Our favourite was the steel band that came some lunchtimes. There are no shortage of sunbeds at all, with plenty on the beach and lots by the pool. The watersports were expertly demonstrated by Joe. The gardens are very well kept and you can see lizards, toads, crabs and beautiful hummingbirds all around. Regarding COVID, we were temperature tested twice daily, all the staff wore masks and the resort organised PCR tests from a visiting nurse prior to departure. East Winds is lovely and we would recommend it to anyone.
Our first visit and one with thoroughly enjoyed. The staff without exception were great and responded to all requests we made with a smile. The food was of a high standard and the fresh fish barbecued lush. Not much to do but read, bathe and do a few water sports but it was relaxing. East winds dream cocktail our favourite along with some super red wines served with meals. My wife enjoyed yoga and pilates each time and the gardens are stunning. Thanks everyone for a great holiday. Journey from airport is our only downside but it was worth it for sure.
BEST EXPERIENCE OF OUR LIFE!
This might be a long post, so if you don’t want to read the whole thing, just read this: BEST TRIP/ STAY OF OUR ENTIRE LIFE!!!! From the moment we stepped foot on the resort we felt so special and lucky to experience this gorgeous piece of paradise! Our room was exquisite, right on the beach! Was meticulously clean, and welcoming with our own bottle of champagne and snacks ready to be enjoyed. As we explored the grounds everything was perfectly manicured and tidy, from the gardens, to the pool, to the tranquil beach! It felt like we were in a dream! Now… food, drink in service. FLAWLESS! As a vegetarian couple, the chefs and staff made sure we always had plenty of options and everything was to our liking. The food was so fresh, delicious and everyday something new! Also- if you mention anything you’d like to try, it’s on your plate for you next meal! *Wink wink - thanks for our plantain*. Drinks were always tasty - from the morning fresh juices/smoothies to our evening cocktails, we were always beyond satisfied. Last recommendation- you MUST talk to Simeon to set up an excursion! He set us up with our own personal sail boat, amazing crew, lunch, sail around the island, then a visit to the volcano mud bath, waterfall and epic snorkeling location!! It was truly the best day!!! This was the best trip we’ve taken, and it’s truly because of the staff! Simeon, Titus, Janelle, Sylvia, Junius, Windell, Lilly, Yellow, Kirby, Porky, Chef, Joe… and everyone else! THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING - we’ll be back for our next visit very soon! Lots of love, good vibes Mike & Cristina
