Relaxing beach holiday
The resort itself is lovely. The rooms are big enough to fit a family of 3 or 4. The kids had a lot of fun at the pool (there is a kids pool and 2 adult pools) and beach (but be careful as the sea is quite rough, and it was also jellyfish season when we went). They have a turtle conservation centre at the beach which is educational for both kids and adults alike. We were there on the residents’ package where we had also added on for the kids. The chef was very friendly and dropped by several times to recommend dishes for us during mealtimes. However, we felt that at times the staff could have been more proactive in serving us and less reluctant in providing us with our food (despite our specific requests), especially when it came to the kids’ portion.
Amazing gem in the East Coast
Spent 3D/2N at this amazing resort in December. Though it was monsoon season, we were blessed with amazing weather. The pool was gorgeous, the beach immaculate and nicely peaceful since it is a private beach. To sit and listen to the waves is pure bliss. This review is not complete without mention of the best feature which is the people here. The service level here is of the highest standard and most importantly genuine. Ramesh the GM of the hotel was there every morning and night to be with us making sure our needs were fulfilled. Chef Ann was there in her cheerful self making delicious local food recommendations. When there, be adventurous and try the local food. They've made them all slightly less spicy here so everyone can enjoy but the curries here are still very fragrant as they only reduced the spice level.
A wonderful experience family experience
We spent 3 nights in the resort and had a wonderful time. Even though it was a monsoon season, we managed to spend half the day outdoor enjoying the facilities and the beautiful scenery. My kids love the beach and the pool. They are clean and family friendly. The hotel staff are genuinely nice, warm and friendly. They remind me of the Malaysian hospitality that we rarely experience as locals. The food was excellent and the restaurant staff and chefs were kind enough to accommodate to our daughter’s food needs. They are attentive too our 2 year old while she roams freely around the restaurant. My kids love the fish feeding time after breakfast, as well. For me, after 9 months being at home, this is an awesome experience especially for me and my young children, who are in need to experience the beach sand and the interaction with nature. Ironically, because of the monsoon season; we are able to strike a balance between spending time outdoors and as well as enjoying the stay in our exceptionally pretty and spacious suite. We will definitely be back, regardless of the season! Many thanks again to the TJR staff for having us. Please do keep up the good work.
Will definitely return after monsoon season!
I did not book in advance and was lucky to have a 2 days staycation following to a last minute cancelation. Liza (customer service rep) was extremely accommodating and understanding in assisting all details. Despite monsoon season, I managed to watch moon and stars one of the nights. I enjoyed watching high tide while sitting at the shore, great experience connecting to the south china sea. Will definitely return after monsoon season for recreational and sports activities!
Back after 7 years - still good!
Came back to Tanjong Jara Resort after 7 years. Still good! Rooms are still the same with the main king bed and extra day bed (good for the kids) - albeit with slight refurbishment and coat of paint! Aircon in the room is good and strong - especially important in Malaysia's hot weather. The bathroom is the same - albeit with better toiletries now and slight refurbishment to the shower and toilets. As Malaysia was experiencing the Movement Control Order (MCO) because of the pandemic - the resort limited the occupancy to only 50% - but also because they took the opportunity to close some units to continue refurbishment. The breakfast spread is now served rather than buffet. Options are limited - but still good. Service, as expected is good, servers were attentive and polite - but expect to wait a while for your food as they would need to individually serve each table. The pools were excellent - and again - because of the limited occupancy - less number of people were at the pool. At times, we had the pool all to ourselves! Short walk to the beach as well, where we spent time alternating between building sand sculptures at the beach and swimming/ playing at the pool. :) The manager - Mr. Ramesh - is ever attentive, talking to us frequently when we were having meals at The Atas Sungei and the Nelayan. Similarly, Chef Ann - which we met 7 years ago - is also super friendly and attentive. A good looking chap from Sabah - Sylvester - dropped by and spoke to us often too and our two young daughters thought he was smart looking. :P The pool boys were also super friendly and bringing us cold water (often!) and towels when needed. An overall pleasant stay and much needed time to unwind after a hectic/ stressful year.
