A perfect hideaway
I returned to Tanjong Jara Resort after some 15 years. This time with my 8 year old child . Nothing much had changed…the resort is as perfect as I recall it to be. Hospitality was at its best. It was the people that made our stay so special. The resort is lead by the affable and capable General Manager Ramesh. He was always “on the ground” throughout our stay. Head Chef Frankie ensured all meals were cooked to perfection, a dedicated chef , he was visible at all meal times ensuring guest were well taken care of and SOP adhered to. Kimie and Amira at reception who went out of their way upon check in to ensure we were satisfied with the resorts’ SOP. Chef Annie who was at hand each meal . Dolis who whipped out the best Char Koay Teow and so willing to be of assistance each day. Well done , Arun who served us each day over breakfast. Kudos to the staff at Nelayan restaurant. Tanjong Jara maintains high standards of SOP and put us at ease over our stay. Although not many activities were possible, my child enjoyed her time at the Turtle Hatchery (Lang Tengah Turtle Watch) with Jason the biologist. Jason is a dedicated young man true to the cause of turtle and environment conservation. The only little I would suggest to make TJR a little more perfect, is that guest should undergo a mandatory saliva test prior to check in or a pcr test. This would ensure both guest and staff are protected and that children in the resort can also remain safe.
The wonderful stay at TJR.
This is my third time here. The overall of the hotel are great. Everytime I come TJR I feel like “Balik Kampung”.The staffs nice and friendly. This trip I found that the food at Atas Sungei Restaurant improve so much compare to my previous trip. The chef Mr.Frankie make us a terrific dinner. The TJR make us feel like royals.
Eat, Pray, Love with A Splash of Luxury
Unlike most resorts, we were greeted with the “WOW” factor even from the gate. The entrance was a beautifully landscaped driveway which emits a very Jumanji/Jurassic Park feel. From the car porch all the way to the reception, the resort just drips with luxurious detail. No, its not the flashy gold finishings that you get in Dubai. Instead its the elegant yet posh feel and very at home with nature. Even though we were told that the resort was fully booked, we did not experience the screaming kids nor the packed like a can of sardines experience. The only time we actually bumped into other guests was at dinner. At Tanjong Jara, it was impressively organised. They even staggered dinner times and limited the number of guests during dinner which was all arranged during check in. All in all, it would be the perfect Eat, Pray, Love destination a corporate slave would be looking for to escape the bustling city life with a splash of luxury. The rooms were nice and spacious. Very very resort feel. Fine wood finishings hence you don’t get the modern luxurious feel but more of the Bali resort kind of feel. You have a nice sleeping area with an additional bed which is perfect for families, a separate bar and coffee machine and a very lovely bath tub and shower area. Its the kind of room where you will want to spend time in the room relaxing and chilling in after a long day in the sun. Our only regret was only staying a night. Heads up! You will get the usual occasional insects because it is very close to the sea side and has a huge garden. But they all stayed outside and rarely found their way into the rooms. The diner has 2 options to choose from. Indoor dining or dining by the pond/lake. However we do recommend indoors as it can get pretty stuffy. Meals come as a set with a variation of combinations to choose from for each person. As you can see, plating is simple yet clean and not all over the place. Ingredients used were fresh and taste was pretty authentic and flavourful. Servers were friendly, patient and pretty informative when it comes to recommendations and house specials. All in all a very pleasant and personalised dining experience. Would also recommend eating around 6.30pm so that there is still a little light in the event you intend to wander about after dinner as the resort gets pretty dark at night. After a well rested night, we headed back to the same place for breakfast. Once again, quite a variety to choose from and faultless service. Since we were travelling along the East Coast of Malaysia, Nasi Dagang was a must try. Its a dish originating from the East Coast consisting of rice steamed in coconut milk, fish curry and pickled cucumber and carrots. The curry was absolutely tasteful and the rice fragrant. The fish was fresh and the pickled vegetables was crunchy. We also had an order of prata which was light and crispy hence absolutely delicious with the curry. The two orders were accompanied with a serving of freshly baked pastries which included a Nonya rice dumpling. The fruit platter, absolutely refreshing. All in all a very relaxing and lovely resort. A super relaxing holiday
As a family of 4 we just spent 12 fantastic days to celebrate the New Year at Tanjong Jara Resort. Despite the monsoon season and therefore a few rainy days, we enjoyed ourselves very much thanks to the comfort of the hotel rooms and the serene property surroundings. The private beach of the resort is welcoming for people who are looking for a peaceful environment. On top of those positive points is the excellent service of the entire hotel staff, ranging from the hotel manager Ramesh, Room manager Jazz, Terrence and very cheerful Kimie from the front desk. We would like to especially thank chefs Ann and Dolis for their succulent and delicious dishes. This amazing duo prepared customised lunch and dinner for us. Apart from the awesome food, we were well taken care of by the other staff members May and Hamdan. We will definitely come back.
Relaxing beach holiday
The resort itself is lovely. The rooms are big enough to fit a family of 3 or 4. The kids had a lot of fun at the pool (there is a kids pool and 2 adult pools) and beach (but be careful as the sea is quite rough, and it was also jellyfish season when we went). They have a turtle conservation centre at the beach which is educational for both kids and adults alike. We were there on the residents’ package where we had also added on for the kids. The chef was very friendly and dropped by several times to recommend dishes for us during mealtimes. However, we felt that at times the staff could have been more proactive in serving us and less reluctant in providing us with our food (despite our specific requests), especially when it came to the kids’ portion.
