A Disappointing Holiday!
Our check-in was delayed by 1 hour and 15 minutes. Upon checking into the room we found the room to be unclean, no hot water, faulty TV and a light in the bathroom not working. The only saving grace were staff like Raj, Babul and the housekeeping staff who were conscientious and friendly and went out of their way to make our stay comfortable. Sadly, the excuse given was they had just opened after the MCO but we feel that for a 5* hotel they should have been more prepared!
I spent four days with my husband and two small children. It was quiet, clean, beautiful. The beach and water were lovely, the staff kind and helpful, and the room perfect. There was wildlife around which was so nice for the kids (Peacocks, monitor lizards, beautiful birds, a few monkeys). The food was so so but all in all it was fantastic and I will definitely return.
Excellent in nearly every way
I found this hotel to be really excellent. What stood out the most were the beautiful private beach (I assume, or either way difficult for others to get there so not crowded), many things to do at the hotel directly (even tennis, and even in the evening as they have lights), and great service (best example is how they proactively contacted the 3rd parry website I used to book them to refund the SST as the government is not currently charging this to encourage tourism, even though they could have easily tried to hide this and take the taxes themselves - really shows their integrity). Our one complaint is the food. We ordered lunch from them upon arriving. We knew the cost was very high for Malaysia standards (70 RM) but didn’t have another choice at the moment, but what was more frustrating was how small it was. We ordered beef rendang, and I sincerely think the amount of meat was at most one-fifth a normal portion (at 5 times the cost). It was so strange that laughter overtook the feeling of anger. The breakfast was also somewhat disappointing. This was during RMCO so we had to order a set meal, and perhaps they have buffet during normal times. But it was also a relatively small portion, and we don’t eat that much.
A nice weekend by the beach
Booked for the weekend on the day that it reopened. To my surprise, it was full, guess many people were sick of being cooped up at home. Although it was full, the resort, with it expansive beach, was large enough to not be crowded and it was easy to practice social distancing. Unfortunate that the pools and spa village was closed. But it was nice to relax in the room, on the verandah, the deck chairs, hammocks and day beds spread around the resort. Food choice was limited as only sets are available. However, there is a nice malay stall and Chinese seafood restaurant a short 5 minutes drive away if you get tired of fancy local food.
Very Relaxing Holiday
We stayed here for two weeks last September - I am very slow with my reviews! We had a thoroughly relaxing and fabulous time. We arrived late but sandwiches and drinks had been provided in our rooms which were very welcome. The rooms are huge - we had two adjacent rooms overlooking the sea and both rooms had two double beds in them. The setting of the hotel is beautiful and it is very well looked after. The staff, without exception, were amazing and couldn’t do enough for us. They even made us little wooden signs to go on our doors. There are plenty of activities to do every day should you wish to. We visited an elephant sanctuary, went snorkelling and watched films at the outdoor cinema among other things. Food and drink at the hotel is very good but expensive so be warned. However, if you walk for about 15 minutes you can reach some little local roadside restaurants which were well worth the walk - cheap and delicious. It is worth noting that not all the local places serve alcohol so if you want wine or beer head for Restoran C B Wee as we found that they did and we also liked their food the most! The nearest big town is Dungan which took about 20 minutes to reach by taxi at a cost of about £6. The night market takes place here which is worth going to. This area of Malaysia is much less touristy than others we have visited and Dungan is quite a quiet place by comparison and so if you are looking for busy nightlife you might be disappointed.
