7 night stay as part of 2 centre Malaysia trip - wonderful to wind down here
Beautiful resort - well appointed room and grounds. Watersports closed- website stated closed from Oct 15th- arrived 7th. Despite yellow flag, told currents/tide were choppy. Adults' pool quite tricky to get in and out of - ladder had circular rungs not flat steps. Poor communication about seafood restaurant opening times - it closed 2 nights without warning - one due to yoga group. Despite asking at lunchtime if we could book , told 'yes but you have to preorder this afternoon' when I asked at 4pm, told had to be selected by 3pm! Took trips - craft village, night market and elephant village - drivers/guides/venues were good. Special final night as turtle hatchlings released on beach by full moonlight. Malaysian lifestyle and hillwalk enjoyable complimentary events. Breakfast good - lots of choice. Chef Ann and colleague were characters. Alcohol expensive but free iced water around the pool and bar service good - happy hour available. If you want to relax, this is a great place. Always found loungers and towels. Disappointed at expensive spa treatment prices as I look forward to these but waited until I returned to UK which were cheaper. Never found this in Asia despite staying in 4-5 star resorts. A lower price would enable more people to try massage to add to their experience. Grand reception area with koi carp and turtles. Would like shop to stock more turtle related gifts (lovely wooden turtle puzzle in reception but unavailable in shop).Overall happy to recommend it
Wonderful & Memorable Stay
This is our 1st local resort stay in Dungun. We spent 3 days 2 nights here for our 16th anniversary. We managed to check in at around 1pm with lunch provided. i.e. residential package. There are variety choice of foods/meals including vegetarian option as long as you tell the chef. Highly recommend to opt for full board if you pay a visit to this resort. As for services, it was good hospitality throughout our stay start from during check in period that made you feels like VIP. There is welcome and goodbye "Gong" that's how the resort welcome us. Overall, this is a very nice place to enjoy honeymoon. Other surprises included the anniversary cake, free room upgrade to Serambi Sea View and hot water with flowers in bathtub after our dinner that really made us feeling warm throughout our stay here. Our Serambi sea view (i.e. room no. 150X) is excellent. Thank you.
Magnificent beach with golden sands at TG Jara
Our small family planned for a quiet stay at this resort while visiting relatives nearby. The food, the spa , the staff and the beach made the short trip meaningful. Its always full on weekends so future trips will need to be planned early.
a most memorable stay
It will be difficult not to repeat what other reviewers have already said, but I'll try! Firstly, TJR is a small luxury boutique resort that celebrates Malay culture. So no swish-bang facilities like water slides, kids club or restaurants with different international cuisines. But it is classy and elegant; private and uncrowded whilst being warm and friendly; and it provides a unique cultural experience which we really enjoyed - from the stunning architecture to the gourmet local food, the dinner music and processions, weekend activities and more! Above all you really get to be quite impressed by the signature YTL service which makes a stay truly "luxurious". Secondly, it was also important for us to stay at an environmentally sensitive resort. TJR is cleverly nestled between the rain forest and beach, so much that native animals like lizards and monkeys wander about freely (we were dismayed to see staff feeding ?resident stray cats however). The resort's support of turtle conservation efforts is laudable and added depth to our stay, but it felt a little like an afterthought. I would really like to see more permanent infrastructure for Leng Tengah as well as increased sustainability efforts such as elimination of plastic water bottles, to bring TJR up another notch. It was lovely to use the socially conscious Mangosteen brand toiletries but I was disappointed not to find it for sale in the resort shop. Missed opportunity there! Thirdly, for a resort that doesn't market itself specifically to families with children, it was surprisingly welcoming and accommodating of them. The staff esp during meal times were patient and attentive of our needs, and even other child-free visitors seemed non-plussed (and were in fact often entertained) by our children's smiles and cheeky antics. Certainly more can be provided to encourage children (and adults!) to discover more about the beautiful natural environment, unique Malay culture and critical turtle conservation issues in a fun and still classy way - think simple field explorer guides/ equipment, children's picture books, vintage Malay games. Also, some shading for the family pool and an earlier dinner time would have been welcomed for our baby. That said, we did deliberately booked ourselves into a remote, small, luxury, and boutique YTL resort in order to truly "get away" from our hectic lives and be spoilt and rejuvenated. And it did not disappoint. Kids included!
Wonderful stay, excellent hospitality
My stay at TJR was nothing short of amazing. Firstly, rooms are BEAUTIFUL. Secondly, the wonderful staff were so kind and accommodating- I had left my glasses at the resort and had only realized upon arriving home, but the hotel staff were courteous enough to help me get them back as a TJR van was coincidentally heading for KL the very day i had called them. The couples massage that came complimentary with our room was excellent. Highly recommended. For families, i highly recommend participating in the Malay Cooking Class. It was so much fun ! Chef was so full of life, she put a smile on everyones faces. Lastly, the beach and pool overlooking the ocean were so clean and blissful. I spent hours there. I hope to comeback some time soon
