What a wonderful lodge!
And what a wonderful staff! The sunset over the valley seen from the lodge's terrace, the delicious food, the cold beer, the spacious and clean rooms with very comfy beds, the quietness of surroundings and the sound of the wildness at night - all made an unforgettable stay for our group. Also, at dinner, the staff surprised us with a festive cake (thank you so-so much <3) and Sebastian showed and send us videos with animals we did not see in the safari. Kilaguni has a very friendly staff but also very careful with safety measures. Congrats! The mornings here are spectacular because, after sunrise, the herds of animals (buffalos, zebras, impalas) come to the lakes to drink water.
I arrived late at sunset and the view is amazing. see Kilimanjaro and very close, two lakes where animals come to drink water. very beautiful sun terace. the dinner was delicious and the surprise was the cake and the emplyees who sang Jumbo song. Sebastian, one of the waiters, asked me what animals I had not seen and showed me pictures and videos of a lioness and four baby lion. All the employees want to help you, make your stay as pleasant as possible and come back to Kilaguni.
Absolutely amazing lodge
We absolutely loved our stay in this lodge and wish we could have stayed longer! The lodge design and the location on the hill with a water hole in the view were amazing. The ambience in the restaurant and bar is romantic with the nice decor and direct views on animals that visit the water hole in the evening. The room was spacious with a nice balcony and was very clean, also no insects at all.
Pros (location and staff) and cons (bring your own water!)
I'll start off with the good things. The location of the lodge is excellent, staff were very friendly, and our guide for the entire stay, Anthony, was really excellent. They also organised a sundowner in the park on the last day which was excellent. Entire lodge is also run by a huge solar plant, which is awesome. The cons. The food really wasn't that good. Had buffets for all meals every day, even when the lodge wasn't busy. Breakfast was good, lunch was terrible, dinner was good one night when they did BBQ. The rooms are also quite dated. My biggest gripe however was water! Bring your own. They give one 375ml bottle per person per day in the room. Because they want you to buy more. This is just ridiculous! In this day and age, most good lodges have free water stations and give you a refillable water bottle to use. All in all, for the price, I'd probably stay somewhere else. Not up to the Serena standards of old.
Two water holes are in front of the Lodge.
I spent one full day at the Lodge with my camera/tri-pod set up over the two water holes taking photos of all the wildlife as they came to the water singly, or in herds. Incredible! When the sun set, the property's lights came on and lit up the water holes. Dinner every evening was watching multiple elephant herds come in to drink, while we dined and watched. Superb food & superb service!
