wonderful lodge with waterhole views
The lodge is situated right in the hart of the national park. It is designed with wonderful views over a couple of waterholes. These attract lots of different wildlife including Elephants, Giraffe, Buffalo, Zebra, Gazelle and others. The rooms are situated in loge row two high. Our room No 23 has views of some of the waterholes from a balcony .The room is spacious with a double bed and a sofa. Unfortunately I found the bed a little hard. The staff a helpful and friendly. The restaurant has a set menu with choices and view through a picture window of the waterholes.
We spent four nights in Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge in October 2020. The location of the lodge is excellent in West tsavo national park. Many rooms have a direct view on a waterhole, where a lot wild animals (e.g.: huge herds of elephants, buffalos, African wild dogs, zebras, giraffes, hartebeests, impalas, warthogs,...). Because the camp is unfenced, you eat and sleep in the middle of the wildlife. The restaurant has a direct view on the waterhole. Interestingly, you can do both day and night game drives. During day game drives, we saw one cheetah, leopards and lions. During a night game drive (with a ranger), we were lucky, as we saw a striped hyena (that is completely different from spotted hyena). Moreover, during the night, you can ask to be awakened by the reception, if they spot wild animals that you wish to see. The rooms are small, well equipped and clean; the beds are comfortable. The food is good. Altogether, if you want to have a great experience of wildlife, I recommend to stay in Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge.
A must to stay at as they are located on only one of two water sources in Tsavo West.
Unbelievable water hole that the property overlooks with 24/7 animal action. I spent a whole day driving around the park and it was heavy brush, very dry weather, the volcanic ground where animals couldn't walk and minimum animal sitings. Discouraged, I suggested we check in early it Kiliguni. I spent the whole of the next day at the lodge with my tripod set up at 545am and a french coffee pot delivered to my room with a view. The biggest treat was the numerous elephant herds that arrived every night through the dinner hour to drink, play, and fight.
Indescribable and Ethereal experience
Travelled during Covid times but as soon as we reached we were given a brief overview of the rules we have to follow while staying at the lodge by literally the most nice receptionist. We had to sanitise before entering and had our temperatures checked. As soon as you enter... The view just takes your breath away. The lodge offers the view of The Chullu hills and it also overlooks a watering hole which is always occupied by one or another animal. The view is just astoundingly beautiful and gives such comfortable vibes. Also the rooms overlook the water hole so you can have a breathtaking view at all times. The management ensures the guests wear masks at all necessary times for our own safety and that was very impressive. The staff are soo kind and very accommodative. We all had to wash our hands before entering the restaurant and seating area at all times. The restaurant had the À la carte option to keep contact with visitors at minimum... The food was of very good quality and the menu had a wide range of delicacies. Tea and coffee are always available on demand in the lobby without an additional fee and other drinks are also readily available on order. The water hole is basically a Safari on its own because it has many different types of animals visiting at their own times and that is a whole different yet enchanting experience on its own. Many different activities are available for the guests to partake in like swimming, cycling and there's also a football pitch for playing. Overall my experience was out of the world and nothing but positive in all aspects. Serena never fails to impress its visitors!
