About this independent tour
This is a private itinerary including a car and driver and local English-speaking tour guides for sightseeing. The itinerary is completely flexible, so you can choose your own number of nights, change accommodation, add excursions and extend your holiday.
DELHI In India’s bustling capital, you’ll divide your time between the contrasting Old and New Delhi quarters. In Old Delhi, you’ll visit fantastic landmarks including the historic Red Fort, the Chandni Chowk bazaar and the resplendent Jama Masjid, the biggest mosque in India. In New Delhi, take a driving tour around the city taking in sights such as the impressive colonial-era Presidential Palace and Humayun’s Tomb, precursor to the Taj Mahal.
JAIPUR Continue to Jaipur, Rajasthan’s capital, a city rich in cultural heritage. You’ll visit the beautiful Amber Fort, a sprawling historic palace complex situated within the Aravalli Hills. You’ll then return to the city to visit the stunning City Palace complex and the royal observatory of Jantar Mantar.
AGRA One of India’s most popular destinations, Agra is home to the renowned Taj Mahal. During your time here, you’ll visit the cultural wonder at both sunrise and sunset, notably the best times of the day to see the radiant beauty of the stunning white marble mausoleum. You’ll also visit the Red Fort of Agra, a 16th Century red sandstone monument that was once the main residence of the Mughal Empire.
KHAJURAHO Khajuraho is a small town that boasts an incredible UNESCO World Heritage-listed archaeological site. During your stay, you’ll have the chance to explore this incredible temple complex. Constructed during the medieval Chandella dynasty, this is an area abundant with exquisite rock carvings. Of the original 85 temples that were built, only about 20 remain, so this is truly a site to be cherished.
VARANASI A real highlight of this trip is the extraordinarily colourful and vibrant city of Varanasi, the spiritual capital of India. Take a full-day tour, beginning at the River Ganges where you’ll observe the flock of pilgrims at the Bathing Ghats, cleansing themselves of their physical and spiritual sins. You’ll also venture to Sarnath, the illustrious locale of Buddha’s first sermon, and you’ll end your day at the Dashashwamedh Ghat to witness the ‘Ganga Aarti’, the routine ceremonial worshipping of the sacred Ganges.
