Before your cruise

Music Meccas

We’ve paired up our fabulous Overland Music Meccas trip with a Western Caribbean cruise. You’ll hit up a trio of the Deep South’s most popular cities – Nashville, Memphis and New Orleans. They all have their own music styles, cuisines and culture and the fun of this holiday is to discover them all.

After your cruise

City stop

The holiday doesn’t have to stop once you’re back on terra firma – your route home take you through any of our favourite East Coast spots. There’s iconic New York, historic Boston, cosmopolitan Chicago and the capital Washington D.C. Alternatively, pop down to Florida for some more sun and fun.

Beach time

Coastal bliss

After a full-on trip around the music Mecca cities, you may be craving some sand between your toes. Each of the ports of call has some stunning beaches and clear seas for the ultimate down time. Snorkel off the coast of Cozumel, mix beach and nature in Roatan and see the exclusive side of Belize on a private paradise island.

Maya time

Back in time

Mexico’s Costa Maya is within easy reach of a handful of incredible Mayan ruins that are ripe for exploration. You’ve got Chacchoben with its jungle-surrounded temples and pyramids, vast yet peaceful Kohunlich where you’ll see elaborate pyramids and courtyards, and hidden-away Ichkabal, one of the oldest ruins in the region.

Days 1-2

Nashville

Bars host bands from mid-morning onwards, studios sit alongside cafés and shops, and it’s easy to wander into places where songs are being written, recorded, or tested in front of a crowd.

Days 3-4

Memphis

Settle into your executive coach seat for the smooth three-and-a-half-hour trip toward the Mississippi. Beale Street’s neon blues bars, the legacy of Stax, and the tracks that shaped everyone from Aretha Franklin to Otis Redding give the city its pulse. Explore at your own pace. Step inside Sun Studio, the birthplace of so many iconic sessions. Wander the National Civil Rights Museum at the Lorraine Motel for one of the most powerful narratives in American history.

Days 5-6

New Orleans

Make your way to the station and board the City of New Orleans, the long-running Amtrak train. The journey takes around eight to nine hours, but it’s part of the experience. New Orleans changes with the hours, from slow mornings over beignets at Café du Monde to evenings when brass bands gather on corners, and music spills out of doorways. A guided walking tour gives you a feel for the city before you wander the French Quarter on your own, where Royal Street offers a gentler pace, and the Mississippi frames the city in a slow, steady sweep.

Day 7

New Orleans

Head to the cruise terminal where you’ll board your Norwegian Cruise Line ship – your home for the next week.

Day 8

At sea

Get your bearings on board and find your favourite spot – perhaps the spa, one of the many lounges, the quarter mile-long Waterfront promenade, or on a poolside lounger.

Day 9

Cozumel, Mexico

First stop is the island of Cozumel which sits just off Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. You can choose between beach time or coastal exploration during your day here – a highlight is the optional shore excursion that takes you to the famous waterfront Mayan ruins.

Day 10

Roatan, Honduras

The Bay Islands of Honduras are the focus today. Roatan is your gateway to the marine life-rich Honduran Reef, beautiful beaches and wild mangrove forests.

Day 11

Harvest Caye, Belize

Private island life awaits on Belize’s beautiful Harvest Cay. You’ll get to pick between watersports, adrenaline-rising ziplines and nature tours; alternatively, just chill by the pool or on the beach.

Day 12

Costa Maya, Mexico

The final port of call is back on Mexican soil. Return to the Yucatan Peninsula but this time dock on the mainland where blue waters meet soft white sands. History buffs will be in seventh heaven here – there are stunning Mayan ruins to be explored, you just need to pick which one suits you best.

Day 13

At sea

The last full day will be spent sailing across the Gulf of Mexico back towards the Louisiana coast. Make sure you hit all your favourite haunts and make the most of the entertainment on offer.

Day 14

New Orleans

The ship will dock early this morning and you’ll step off and head to the airport.
