Ninh Binh Hidden Charms Package

Three days exploring Ninh Binh’s river landscapes, historic sites, and viewpoints, with time to experience the area at a more measured pace.

This trip focuses on a different side of northern Vietnam, where limestone hills rise from flat rice fields, and rivers wind through cave systems. Over two nights, you’ll visit a mix of cultural landmarks and natural landscapes, from historic capitals and temple complexes to slow boat journeys through caves and open stretches of water. Staying in one place for the duration allows time to take in the setting without moving on each day.

Day 1

Hanoi to Ninh Binh

Your guide and driver will meet you at your hotel for the journey south to Ninh Binh, around two hours from Hanoi. It doesn’t take long before the city gives way to open countryside, with rice fields and limestone hills coming into view. The first stop is Hoa Lu, Vietnam’s ancient capital of the Dinh and Le dynasties. There isn’t a huge amount left of the original structures, but the setting among the limestone peaks makes it easy to picture why this was once the centre of power. After lunch at a local restaurant, continue to Phat Diem Cathedral. Built entirely from stone in 1892, it blends the layout of a European church with the rooflines and detailing of a traditional Vietnamese temple. It’s still in use today and feels quite different to anything else you’ll see on the trip. From here, continue to your hotel in Ninh Binh and get settled in. The rest of the afternoon is yours to take it easy. Overnight at Ninh Binh Hidden Charm Hotel (or similar).

Day 2

Ninh Binh

After breakfast, head out to Bai Dinh Pagoda. It’s one of the largest temple complexes in Vietnam, and the scale becomes clear as you walk through long corridors lined with statues, wide courtyards, and a setting that stretches across the hillside.Later, continue to Trang An, a UNESCO-listed landscape of rivers and limestone cliffs. You’ll take to the water in a small sampan, rowed by a local guide, drifting along narrow channels that lead through low cave tunnels and out into open stretches framed by rice fields. It’s slow, quiet, and one of those experiences where you don’t need much explaining. You just sit back and take it in.After lunch, return to your hotel in the afternoon, with the rest of the day free. Overnight at Ninh Binh Hidden Charm Hotel (or similar)

Day 3

Ninh Binh to Hanoi

After breakfast, head to Hang Mua. The climb to the top is fairly direct, with several hundred stone steps, but the view from the top makes it worthwhile, offering views across Tam Coc’s river bends, rice fields, and limestone formations.Afterwards, begin the journey back to Hanoi. If time allows, there may be a short stop at a local market along the way, then you’ll be dropped back at your hotel or at the airport.
