Hugging the spellbinding shores of Lake Como, this 19th century hotel, once an 1800s spinning mill, captures the enduring charm of yesteryear. Set in the medieval village of Varenna, it’s here you’ll wake up to church bells ringing, sip espresso after breakfast and return for golden hour views of lake and mountains from Visteria Restaurant’s outdoor terrace. A big highlight is the outdoor lake-facing pool, a tranquil spot for an early morning dip or late swim after exploring castles and villas or sailing across the lake. The hotel’s 43 rooms range from pocket-size and simple to spacious Junior Suites, a few with balconies and lake views. Other perks include a bookable in advance wellness suite with a sauna, steam room and sensory showers and access to neighbouring Villa Cipressi’s botanical gardens.

The hotel offers a choice of three restaurants and three bars. Enjoy buffet breakfasts of cold cut meats, cheeses, fruits and cereals, take light lunches and informal dinners at Victoria Grill and enjoy all-day dining in the hotel’s gardens at Giardino Restaurant. The highlight is certainly the hotel’s fine dining Visteria Restaurant, where regional dishes with a contemporary twist are served alfresco on a stunning terrace overlooking Lake Como.

Set in Varenna’s central piazza and offering indoor and outdoor dining. Open for brunch, lunch and dinner with a menu of pizzas, pasta, seafood and Mediterranean inspired dishes.

Giardino Restaurant
Open from 11am to 6pm, Giardino serves fine Italian dishes in a beautiful garden setting overlooking the lake.

Visteria Restaurant
The hotel’s new fine dining restaurant boasts a sublime terrace with spellbinding views of one of Italy’s most glamorous lakes. Offerings include Mediterranean and regional cuisine as well as four-course and six-course tasting menus alongside wine pairings.
