Hotel Belmar

A breath of fresh air in the cloud forest canopy

Overlooking the Gulf of Nicoya, this nature-immersed hillside lodge is big on eco-adventures, farm-to-table dining and garden-to-glass cocktails.

This treasured family-run hotel appears to have been plucked from the Alps and dropped into the misty Costa Rican cloud forest. Traditional chalet-style rooms feature private balconies and a complimentary yoga class per stay. Rosy cheeked adventure comes from guided cloud forest hikes, independent trails, birdwatching tours and horse riding. Return for a Jacuzzi dip and a pale ale at the hotel’s microbrewery.

Why we love Hotel Belmar

  • Set between two atmospheric cloud forests whose life-giving moisture generates immense biodiversity.

Take your time over a breakfast of fresh eggs, cheese and coffee on the beautiful balcony while watching the birds and gazing out over the forest to the Pacific Ocean beyond. Take a tour of the farm to learn about the lodge’s dedication to sustainability and enjoy authentic experiences such as milking a cow, straining sugar cane and picking coffee beans. Head to the Celajes Lounge at sunset for cocktails and tapas or have a go at making your own cocktails using fresh ingredients from the garden.

Restaurante Celajes
The Restaurante Celajes serves simple farm-to-table dishes inspired by local cuisine, using produce grown in the garden or on the hotel’s farm, Madre Tierra – Costa Rica's first certified carbon neutral farm.

Celajes Lounge Bar
Sip garden-to-glass cocktails and craft beers from noon until dusk at Celajes Lounge. Sample botanical tipples infused with fresh, organic ingredients plucked straight from the farm. Arrive at sunset for Tico Time when cocktails come with complimentary bocas, the Costa Rican equivalent of tapas.

Tap Room
The rustic Tap Room and Beer Garden is set by the spring water lake and offers a terrific selection of artisanal ales brewed on site and available from the tap.

What's included

Breakfast at Restaurante Celajes.

Individual and couples treatments are available, including hot stone, deep tissue and essential oil massages.

On the main floor of the chalet a juice bar and tea room dishes out everything from ginger shots and spicy chai to super food juices and fruit sorbet bowls. It’s a great place to fuel up before a self-guided hike or a private yoga class.

A pioneer in environmentally friendly practices, carbon-neutral Hotel Belmar uses solar panels for heating water, runs on energy-efficient lighting and has recycling and composting programmes in place. They harvest rainwater, offset their already low emissions and use eco-friendly cleaning products and toiletries. There are hands-on green and responsible activities you can take part in including sustainable agriculture tours and farm-to-table experiences. Ingredients plucked straight from their organic garden and farm - lettuce, green peppers, avocados, rose apples and bananas - are carried to the restaurants and bars and they harvest coffee beans and produce their own artisan cheeses.
