Travel Kuoni

Playa del Carmen first, Puerto Morelos next, with boutique all-inclusive ease.

This seven-night Riviera Maya trip stays on Mexico’s Caribbean coast, but gives you two different bases instead of one long stay in the same spot. You start near Playa del Carmen, roughly halfway between Cancún and Tulum, where you’re well placed for beach time, 5th Avenue, Cozumel ferries, cenotes, and day trips to Mayan sites. Then you move north to Puerto Morelos, a smaller coastal town between Playa del Carmen and Cancún, known for its local square, fishing boats, reef, and easier final transfer to the airport. Both stays are all-inclusive, so the food-and-drink side is simple, but the real appeal lies in the shift in setting: first, a livelier stretch of the Riviera Maya, then a quieter Caribbean town with more of a local feel.

Recommended itinerary

Days 1-4

Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen is a fantastic first base because it puts you close to a lot of the Riviera Maya’s headline experiences. You can keep things beach-led, head into town for 5th Avenue’s shops, restaurants, and bars, or use the coast as a launch point for more exploring. Cozumel is just offshore by ferry, cenotes are within reach for a swim in freshwater limestone pools, and Chichén Itzá is possible as a longer day out if you want one of Mexico’s most important Mayan sites in the mix. Beachfront by The Fives is a good fit for this first stop because it gives you all-inclusive comfort with a more modern, boutique feel. There’s a relaxed food-and-drink focus, from pop-up-style gastronomy and cocktails, plus access to a neighbouring hotel if you want more facilities, activities, and entertainment.

Days 5-7

Puerto Morelos

Puerto Morelos changes the pace without taking you far. It sits between Playa del Carmen and Cancún, but the feel is much more low-key than the bigger resort centres. The town has a central square, casual places to eat and drink, fishing boats along the shore, and part of the Mesoamerican Reef just offshore, which makes snorkelling one of the area’s easiest wins. Oceanfront by The Fives keeps the same stylish, all-inclusive approach, but swaps Playa del Carmen’s busier setting for something more tucked away. The rooftop infinity pool and bar are the headline, especially around sunset, and the hotel’s food scene gives the final few days a grown-up, easy-going finish. This is the part of the trip for sea views, slower mornings, a Sunday market wander if the timing lines up, and a final few days that still feel connected to the place around you.

Extend your holiday

Isla Mujeres

If you want to turn seven nights into ten, add Isla Mujeres at the end. This small island sits off the coast near Cancún, reached by catamaran transfer, so the extension feels like a proper change of scene rather than just another hotel move. Once you’re there, the focus shifts to sea views, fine dining, and a more exclusive island finish after Playa del Carmen and Puerto Morelos.
