The Canadiana

This coast-to-coast Canadian romp explores this magnificent country over three incredible weeks.

From city streets to soaring peaks, this 21-day cross-country caper serves up a bit of everything. You’ll meet your tour guide and fellow travellers in buzzing Toronto, then cruise the Thousand Islands, soak up Montreal’s flair, and meander through Quebec City’s cobbled charm. A sugar shack lunch, a brush with Niagara Falls, and a dinner high above the Toronto skyline are just a handful of highlights along the way. Then it’s westward ho, swapping skyscrapers for summits as Calgary rolls into the Rockies. Banff and Jasper bring glaciers, gondolas, and glorious lakes so blue they almost seem edited. The road winds on through forest trails, ranch lands, and alpine twists to Whistler, then glides across to Victoria with its floral flair. Finally, Vancouver brings it all together – coast, culture, and a laid-back spirit that makes it very hard to leave.

Day 1

Toronto

Welcome to Toronto, Canada’s biggest and busiest city. Once you've touched down and made your way to your hotel in the city centre, your tour director will be on hand to say hello, and you can settle into your base for the next two nights. The rest of the day is entirely up to you. Depending on when you arrive, you might fancy stretching your legs post-flight, grabbing a late dinner, or just ordering a drink in the hotel bar to ease into holiday mode. Overnight at Chelsea Hotel (or similar).

Day 2

Toronto

This morning, you’ll get a proper introduction to Toronto on a guided tour that takes in both its shiny skyscrapers and its quieter, characterful corners. Expect sights like the CN Tower, the lively harbourfront, the old and new City Halls, the grand University of Toronto, and the swish streets of Yorkville. You’ll also swing past the Rogers Centre, where the city cheers on everything from baseball to big-name gigs. The afternoon and evening are yours to spend as you like. Maybe dipping into an art gallery, poking around the shops, or returning to a place you visited on the morning tour and want to dig into further. Overnight at Chelsea Hotel (or similar). Includes Canadian breakfast.

Day 3

Montréal

You’ll be up early today to board the coach for the drive to Montréal, a journey of around six hours, not including stops. The route hugs the northern shore of Lake Ontario before continuing east through Ontario’s peaceful countryside. Partway through the day, you’ll pause in the Thousand Islands region for a leisurely river cruise. After stretching your legs and enjoying the fresh air, you’ll continue to Montréal, arriving by evening. You’ll have two nights in your hotel here. Overnight at Delta Hotel by Marriot Montréal (or similar). Includes Canadian breakfast.

Day 4

Montréal

Montréal is a city full of contrasts, where cobbled streets and grand old buildings cosy up to sleek, modern spaces. Today’s tour will give you a feel for it all. You’ll explore the charm of Old Montréal and see the sweeping Olympic Stadium, venture through the leafy slopes of Mount Royal, and pass by the academic buzz of McGill University. After that, the rest of the day is yours. You might fancy a mooch around a museum, take a moment in the park, or sit back with a coffee for a spot of people-watching at a local café. In the evening, you could plan dinner at one of the city’s buzzing bistros, catch a live jazz set in a tucked-away bar, or wander through the Old Port as the city lights shimmer on the water. Overnight at Delta Hotel by Marriot Montréal (or similar). Includes Canadian breakfast.

Day 5

Québec City

This morning, you’ll head deeper into French-speaking Canada with a scenic drive of around three hours to Québec City. Part of the journey follows the historic Chemin du Roy, also known as the King’s Road, one of the oldest routes in North America, dating back to the 1700s when it was built to connect Montréal and Québec. It winds through quiet Quebecois villages, dotted with stone churches and traditional homes. Once you arrive, you’ll set out on a walking tour of the old town to check out the fortified walls, ornate city gates, colourful lanes of Lower Town, and views over the St Lawrence River from Battlefields Park. Overnight at Hoel Le Concorde (or similar). Includes Canadian Breakfast.

Day 6

Québec City

You’ve got the whole day to do as much or as little as you like. Stay local and wander the shops, cafés, and winding alleys of the old city, or join an optional full-day excursion to Tadoussac. If you go, you’ll travel along the north shore of the St Lawrence River, where it meets the Saguenay, for a three-hour whale-watching cruise. On the way back, you’ll visit Montmorency Falls, which stand even taller than Niagara. You’ll return to your hotel in the evening. Overnight at Hoel Le Concorde (or similar). Includes Canadian breakfast.

Day 7

Ottawa

Today’s journey takes you west into Ontario’s capital, Ottawa, with a total drive time of about five and a half hours. You’ll break up the journey with a visit to a traditional sugar shack for lunch and a sweet maple syrup tasting. Once in Ottawa, you’ll enjoy a short orientation tour to get familiar with the city, then have the rest of the evening free. Overnight at Delta Hotels by Marriot Ottawa City Centre (or similar). Includes breakfast.

Day 8

Ottawa

This morning, you’ll take a proper tour of Ottawa. From the grand Parliament Buildings and the official residences of Canada’s leaders to the UNESCO-listed Rideau Canal, there’s plenty to take in. After that, the day is yours. You might explore the city’s excellent museums and galleries, take a boat cruise, or browse the shops along pedestrian-friendly Sparks Street. Whether you're after culture, scenery, or a slower pace, Ottawa has something to match your mood. Overnight at Delta Hotels by Marriot Ottawa City Centre (or similar). Includes breakfast.

Day 9

Huntsville

Leaving the city behind, you’ll head towards the lakes and forests of central Ontario. The drive to Huntsville takes around five hours, with a stop along the way at Algonquin Provincial Park. There, you’ll have time for a walk on one of the park’s marked trails, where you might spot chipmunks darting through the undergrowth. Algonquin is known for its dense pine forests, quiet lakes, and winding rivers, offering a real sense of the Canadian wilderness. By afternoon, you’ll reach the Muskoka town of Huntsville, a friendly spot with local shops, galleries, and a lakeside setting where you’ll settle in for the night. Overnight at Delta Hotels by Marriot Ottawa City Centre (or similar). Includes Canadian breakfast.

Day 10

Niagara Falls

The coach heads south, passing Toronto and continuing through the changing scenery of the Niagara Peninsula. City streets give way to open farmland, orchards, and neat rows of vineyards as you approach the region’s famous waterfalls. Once there, you’ll board a boat that takes you right to the base of the Horseshoe Falls, where the mist fills the air and you’re likely to get a little wet. After a quick dry-off, you’ll head up the Skylon Tower for sweeping views of the falls and surrounding countryside. If you're in the mood for more adventure, you could opt for a helicopter ride or take a spin on the Niagara SkyWheel. The evening is yours to explore the town as you like. Overnight at Hilton Hotel & Suites Fallsview (or similar). Includes continental breakfast.

Day 11

Toronto

Today, it’s a 90-minute hop back to Toronto via Niagara-on-the-Lake Back in the city, there’s a special farewell (to eastern Canada) dinner in the CN Tower. Overnight at Chelsea Hotel (or similar). Includes Canadian breakfast and dinner.

Day 12

Calgary

Head to the airport for your flight over to Calgary. After check-in, the day is yours. Whether you ride to the top of the Calgary Tower, stroll along the Bow River Pathway, or take it easy with a good meal, it’s a chance to settle in at your own pace. Your tour director will get in touch later in the day with the details for tomorrow. Overnight at Delta Hotels by Marriott Calgary Downtown (or similar).

Day 13

Banff National Park

Begin your first full day with a short tour of Calgary’s highlights, from the Calgary Tower to historic Fort Calgary, before boarding the coach and heading west. The drive to Banff takes about two hours, with the landscape shifting from wide-open prairie to the gentle rise of the foothills, where ranches dot the hillsides and forests begin to thicken. Soon, the Rockies take over the skyline, and the road starts to climb. You’ll reach the town of Banff by early afternoon. Set in the heart of Banff National Park, it’s a lively little place with mountain views in every direction, cosy cafés, and plenty of spots to stretch your legs. The rest of the day is yours to enjoy the fresh air and settle in. Overnight at Banff Aspen Lodge or Banff Caribou Lodge (or similar). Includes Canadian breakfast.

Day 14

Banff National Park

Start the day with a guided tour of the Banff area, taking in key sights around town and within the national park. In the afternoon, you’re free to explore at your own pace. You might opt for a helicopter flight over the peaks or ride the gondola up Sulphur Mountain for panoramic views of the Bow Valley. If you’d rather stay grounded, visit Bow Falls, the Whyte Museum, or the flower-filled Cascade Gardens. Banff Avenue offers plenty of spots to browse or relax with a coffee. And if you’re after some proper downtime, the Banff Upper Hot Springs make a fine excuse to unwind. Overnight at Banff Aspen Lodge or Banff Caribou Lodge (or similar). Includes Canadian breakfast.

Day 15

Jasper National Park

You’ll travel the Icefields Parkway. It’s often called one of the most scenic drives in Canada, and once you’re on it, you’ll see why. The road to Jasper takes about five hours, with plenty of stops along the way to break things up. You’ll start at Lake Louise, where the water is as turquoise as the photos, then head to the Columbia Icefield. There, you’ll climb into a giant, purpose-built vehicle that drives right onto the Athabasca Glacier. It’s chilly up there, so an extra layer is a good idea. After that, the road winds north through wide valleys, thick forests, and more mountain views than you can count. You’ll arrive in Jasper by early evening. If you're in the mood for something a bit different, there's the option of a rafting trip along the Athabasca River. It’s mostly calm water with a few short rapids to keep things lively. Overnight at Tonquin Inn (or similar). Includes Canadian breakfast.

Day 16

Sun Peaks

You might kick things off with an optional boat cruise on Maligne Lake, where glassy water reflects the surrounding peaks, or take a spin in a motorcycle sidecar for a breezy ride through Jasper’s winding forest roads. Once you're back on the coach, the journey heads west along the Yellowhead Highway. It’s a long stretch, around six and a half hours, but the scenery keeps things interesting. You’ll pass through the rugged beauty of Mount Robson Provincial Park, follow the curves of the Thompson River, and roll through the tree-covered hills of the Shuswap Highlands. By late afternoon, you’ll arrive in Sun Peaks, a peaceful alpine village with a laid-back feel and mountain views in every direction. Overnight at Sun Peaks Grand (for similar). Includes Canadian breakfast.

Day 17

Whistler

Continue your journey through the interior of British Columbia, where dry ranchlands gradually give way to deep valleys and forested slopes. The drive to Whistler takes around five and a half hours, with the winding stretch of Duffey Lake Road stealing the show. Lakes and peaks appear suddenly around bend after bend, and if you’re lucky, you might spot black bears grazing near the roadside or bald eagles circling overhead. You’ll arrive in Whistler with enough time to explore its pedestrian-friendly village, full of shops, cafés, and alpine charm. Or, to see the landscape from a different perspective, you could take to the skies on an optional floatplane tour over Garibaldi Provincial Park. Overnight at Delta Hotels by Marriott Whistler Village Suites (or similar). Includes continental breakfast.

Day 18

Victoria

Today’s a full one, with plenty to see and do from start to finish. You’ll leave Whistler in the morning and follow the Sea-to-Sky Highway south, where ocean views, forested cliffs, and snow-dusted peaks keep the scenery lively. On the way to the ferry, you’ll stop in North Vancouver for a visit to the Capilano Suspension Bridge. It’s a chance to walk high above the forest floor, surrounded by towering evergreens and the sound of rushing water far below. From there, it’s a short hop to Horseshoe Bay to catch the ferry across the Strait of Georgia. The 90-minute crossing brings you to Vancouver Island, with sea views along the way and maybe even a seal or two if you’re lucky. Once back on land, the coach heads south to Victoria. With its leafy streets, heritage architecture, and coastal feel, the city blends character and charm in equal measure. You’ll take a guided tour to get your bearings before heading to your hotel for the evening, where you’ll check in for two nights. Overnight at Coast Victoria Hotel & Marina by APA (or similar). Includes Canadian breakfast.

Day 19

Victoria

A full day’s been set aside to enjoy Victoria. You’ll start with a visit to the world-famous Butchart Gardens, a spectacular display of colour set in a reclaimed quarry. In the afternoon, you might opt for a floatplane tour over the city and the Strait of Juan de Fuca, or head out to sea on a whale-watching excursion in search of orcas and other marine life. The rest of the day is free for you to savour the city’s charming blend of history and harbours. Overnight at Coast Victoria Hotel & Marina by APA (or similar). Includes continental breakfast. Includes continental breakfast and dinner.

Day 20

Vancouver

Leave Victoria behind and travel by coach and ferry to the mainland. The ferry crossing takes you through the scenic Gulf Islands, and the whole journey to Vancouver takes around four hours. Once in the city, you’ll set out on a guided tour that includes Stanley Park, Prospect Point, English Bay, Gastown, and Chinatown. After getting your bearings and ticking off a few highlights, the afternoon is yours to explore more of what caught your interest. In the evening, you’ll join your fellow travellers for a farewell dinner to share stories and celebrate the end of your Canadian adventure. Overnight at Sutton Place Hotel Vancouver (or similar).
