PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay, Singapore

Singapore’s first ‘Garden-in-a-Hotel’

A city-centre sanctuary with cinematic architecture, skyline views and farm-to-fork cuisine

This urban jungle oasis has taken Singapore’s Garden City nickname to new eco-conscious heights. Set in the heart of Marina Bay, this ‘Garden-in-a-Hotel’embraces the natural world with one of South East Asia’s largest indoor atriums, where more than 2,400 plants, trees, and 60 varieties of flora climb 21 storeys. You’ll find planet-friendly innovations at every turn, including the hotel’s rooftop Urban Farm where fresh ingredients from more than 60 varieties of edible fruits, vegetables, flowers and herbs are sourced for its restaurants, bar and spa. At night, the 25-metre swimming pool dazzles with 1380 energy-efficient, star-like fibre optic lights, and the Skyline Bar glows under the glittering cityscape. Wake up to views of the bay or city from its stylish rooms, and retreat to the award-winning spa for revitalising treatments.

Sustainability is a big focus here. The hotel’s green feats include its innovative energy, water, and waste management practices, from its 210 solar panels powering all passenger lifts and emergency lights, to its sky lit atrium, air-purifying plants and temperature-regulating glass roof and double-glazed glass. The hotel manages its water usage by drawing chilled water from a district cooling plant and uses heat exchangers instead of boilers for hot water to save energy. Motion sensors that intelligently control lighting and cooling to conserve energy are installed in all guestrooms.

The hotel has also installed in-room filtered water systems to eliminate 360,000 single-use plastic bottles annually, has an electric car for low-emission airport transfers, and its own rooftop Urban Farm which grows seasonal produce that is free of chemical fertilisers and insecticides, while food waste is minimised through the usage of food digesters. The hotel also participates in the circular economy, where used coffee capsules from its guestrooms and executive lounge are recycled into bicycles and pens, while coffee grounds are composted into the Urban Farm.

Responsible procurement is also practiced at the hotel, with seafood sourced from MSC and ASC-certified suppliers, and paper from FSC-certified sources. Eco-conscious guest? You can learn all about these pioneering innovations on a behind-the-scenes tour of the hotel and its impressive Urban Farm.
