A friend recommended we holiday in Cala Caldana in Menorca and to stay at the Melia Hotel, so we booked for the last 2 weeks of June and were very impressed with the friendly efficient staff we met and the cleanliness of the hotel itself. Plenty of towels are provided for use on the public beach and pool. The bedrooms are quiet and comfortable with plenty of storage for clothes and luggage. The restaurant caters for all tastes with a delicious variety of food in a very airy and spacious environment. A short walk around the seafront takes you to a stop where you can pick up a bus to either Cituadella or Mahon or, as the roads are excellent, you could hire a car to see out of the way villages. Diving, sailing, canoeing and paddle boards are available. As it's only a 2 hour flight from London and the weather is mainly warm and sunnny we will definitely come back in the future. Trip with lost luggage
Beautiful property on spectacular Menorcan beach. Stayed on the Level. Great lounge with breakfast, snacks/drinks throughout the day, late afternoon tapas. Very personable and helpful staff. Two pools but only went to the beautiful beach
Spectacular position on the Bay
This hotel is the best we have ever stayed at. Rooms compact ( side sea view) but excellently appointed spotlessly clean towels changed twice a day tea & coffee plus small stocked fridge. The staff at this hotel are the best we have ever experienced, knowledgeable reception, pool bar & breakfast room & housekeeping all work to make your stay perfect. Breakfast choice is great and pool bar drink prices very reasonable. Pool very nice no graduated steps in but excellent temperature. Good location for local bars and restaurants with the beach on it’s doorstep.
Beautiful Cala Galdana
Ideally situated as it is right on the beach in this beautiful cove . I would always go for the Level as it offers more flexibility but does come at a price . Staff are pleasant and helpful and food in the Level restaurant is good although it’s a bit repetitive after a week . This was the only restaurant available in the hotel , apart from a buffet style restaurant.
A beautiful hotel and location, but buffet needs improving in quality and variety
I stayed at the Melia for 9 days on a half board basis during early May. I travelled with TUI and paid an extra supplement for a 'Galdana view' room, which is a full sea view. As I was solo travelling, there was no need to pay for the Level. To my surprise I was allocated a room on the 9th Floor (Room 922) - which was fantastic being high up with views across the bay. Floor 9 is just above the buffet restaurant, but this didnt bother me in the slightest. The hotel is spotlessly clean, the ladies were constantly cleaning the lobby area every morning. I think the Lobby area is the most comfortable area of the hotel, the ambience, the seating, the music and sea views. The standard room is not very big, but I found it to be modern and ample for storage space, it had a spacious feel to it, some thought had gone into the maximising the space when it was designed. The bathroom was adequate, it had rituals products to use, which was a nice touch. The buffet food is where this hotel needs to improve, especially in the evening, this hotel is classed as a 5 Star, but the food is way below this standard. It needs to be extensive with more variety, not just 2 meat or 2 fish options with a few things in different pots. The plates were not kept warm, not enough attention on keeping food hot, pot covers were taken off and left. The desserts were mainly cakes and yoghurts, but no ice cream on display, which is quite bizarre for a hotel. You would think it would be standard every evening, I did ask them for Ice cream, which they served to me. If Melia management are reading this, please investigate the food options, these need to be in line with 5 star standards, I have had better food in 4 star hotels. The swimming pool is quite small, not heated, the sun desk above it is nice to sit and relax in. There was also a maintenance issue of a constant flickering light in the buffet restaurant, I reported this 4 times to different people (2x reception, 2 x restaurant) It was very distracting and I felt sorry for anyone sitting beneath it. This wasn't fixed by the end of my stay, all that needed to be done was a replacement strip light, for a 5 star hotel, this was poor. It was first time to Menorca and it won't be my last, I really enjoyed the beauty of Cala Galdana. This hotel is in the best position right on the beach. The location is 5 Star. Staff are polite and attentive. I would stay here again, but would consider b&b only. But the food on offer needs an overhaul, they need to offer something bigger and different. For an International chain as Melia, this is certainly possible. Please improve your food, then your hotel will be a 5 Star.
