Well situated for town
It is difficult to get many of the staff to smile. Reception are very cool and the waiters working at breakfast time really appear to not want to be there. Tables re-laid for breakfast have half the items missing off them and most of the days I just went to find them myself. Breakfast eggs are not very good unless, I assume, you are there when they are brought out when breakfast starts. Having said that the hotel rooms are very nice - but no little bottles of complimentary water - and bathrooms are small. Great restaurants and bars in town. The pool at the hotel and surround are very pleasant although it was good weather in October to sit out around the pool but too cold to swim. At this time I think it is the best hotel in Menaggio but apparently they are refurbishing another hotel and it will be 5 star. The Grand Hotel is right next to the pleasure boats that go around the lake.
Amazing lakeside location.
We stayed here for 7 nights on a group tour and we both had a lake view which I would def try and book. This hotel is great for accessing everywhere around the lake as the ferry and car ferry are next door and the bus stop is literally outside the front of the hotel. The food is excellent and there is a large choice for the buffet breakfast including freshly squeezed orange juice and Prosecco. The a la carte evening meal is expensive at about 45 euros but the hotel did offer a deal if you bought three evenings. It is five courses and the help yourself buffet first course was very varied each night and always tasty. You will not go hungry in this hotel. The restaurant is overlooking the lake as well so you have fantastic views whilst you eat. The hotel is very clean and staff were always helpful. My only criticism would be that the wi fi is not good enough as it keeps dropping out and you have to keep logging in again. Menaggio is a lively town during the day with lots of shops and restaurants and a lovely walk along the front. Beware of early closure in the evenings during October which is when we went as it is near the end of the season.
Fantastic lake views
Excellent location, beside a ferry stop, halfway along Lake Como. Advisable to book a lake view, to get the benefit of the location. Lots of quaint villages to visit around the lake, full of history & character, either by ferry or alternatively by local bus. Hotel, very comfortable, dinner is 5 small courses, a nice change. We went in October. The evenings were too too cold for a stroll. No English speaking TV channels (except news).
Comfortable, helpful staff
My partner and I stayed here for 11 nights at the end of October and had a very comfortable stay. The hotel is helpfully located on the water front and close to a ferry port so we could easily visit other places if we wanted to. Menaggio itself is a lovely little town which has a range of places to eat including some very nice bakeries. There is a nice promenade in Menaggio for scenic walks so all in all it’s a good place to stay in Como. The hotel has an ‘old world’ feel as a result of the furnishings and general approach to service (waiters in black shirt and bow tie etc.,), though it is hovering dangerously on the side of being a bit dated. Our double bedroom included a small dressing room parlour styled room which was a nice touch and very helpfully had a kettle. The hotel was perfectly clean and the rooms were serviced daily. The breakfast was the standard buffet fair, including hot and cold foods and choices of hot drinks. You could also help yourseld to prosecco which was a nice touch! The breakfast room is the restaurant room which looks over the lake, and it was great to have breakfast looking across the water. We did not try out the restaurant as although the menu was very appetizing they only really offered the full 4 course menu which was over 40 euros, not including drinks, and it was not clear if the a la carte option was really an option. I can’t eat 4 courses so decided to take a miss on this. The hotel staff were exceedingly helpful and friendly. We had a few questions about the excursions and the staff provided lots of information and booked us tickets on a trip to St. Moritz. When our TV broke someone came to look at if straight away, and generally everyone was welcoming saying hello and asking how our visit was going. As I say a relaxing and comfortable stay, and that was for 11 nights!
Out of season visit
Stayed here Oct 2019. Couldn't fault the location and hotel room but restaurant staff a tad grumpy and rude. Group trip where most had paid half board for 4 or 7 nights - I hadnt and would have been charged 45 Euros for dinner (5 courses which I didnt want) without wine. No flexibility for just one evening to eat with everyone else, even though I was staying for 7 nights. Only a handful of restaurants open at this time of year too.
