 La Palma

Stresa from above

Right on Stresa’s palm-lined promenade, with the Borromean Islands spread out in front of you, La Palma makes Lake Maggiore feel wonderfully straightforward from the moment you arrive.

La Palma is great because it understands the assignment. You’re here for the lake, the islands, the long lunches, and the evening passeggiata, and everything about the stay is geared towards helping you enjoy them. The location is genuinely excellent. It’s right on the waterfront and an easy stroll into Stresa’s historic centre and ferry point for the Borromean Islands – big tick. Inside, the look is modern and airy rather than grand and traditional, which feels like the right call when the real spectacle is outside your window.

Why we love La Palma

  • Bright, modern interiors keep the focus on Lake Maggiore rather than competing with its more traditional surroundings.

  • A true lakefront setting with uninterrupted views across to the Borromean Islands from many rooms and public spaces.

  • The seventh floor Sky Bar and Sky Pool bring a more contemporary, social feel to the classic Italian Lakes aperitivo ritual.

  • You’re within easy walking distance of Stresa’s ferry terminal, restaurants and historic centre, so exploring the islands is refreshingly simple.

Wellness here feels tied to the landscape rather than tucked away in a windowless basement. The Panoramic Spa is designed for proper switching-off, with lake views from the relaxation areas and sauna and steam experiences that make lingering between treatment and relaxation room very easy to justify. There’s a bright, well-equipped Technogym fitness room, plus treatment rooms offering massages and beauty rituals. Afterwards, you can take things outside to the heated lakeside pool with hydromassage jets, or head up to the rooftop Sky Pool for a swim with Lake Maggiore spread out below.

Boat trips to the Borromean Islands are the obvious highlight, with regular ferries departing from nearby Stresa harbour to Isola Bella, Isola Madre and Isola dei Pescatori. The lakeside promenade is ideal for easy walks, and the town’s cafés and gelaterias provide plenty of excuses to linger.

Hotel La Palma holds a EMAS certification, showing a long-standing commitment to protecting its lakeside environment.
