Italy's Lakes & Lagoons

Bella Italia

It’s this way to la dolce vita. Let Lake Como’s storybook towns and Alpine backdrops give way to palaces, basilicas and vibrant islands on this majorly decadent lake-meets-lagoon-cruise holiday with Uniworld Boutique Cruises.

The monochrome mask painted on her bow is the first nod to the S. S. La Venezia’s connection to the ‘floating city’. Stunning Fortuny fabrics are used extensively on board, as is Murano glass and subtle Venetian design elements. There’s no doubting where you are.

Trip notes

Before your cruise

Cruising past Lake Como’s villas, Aperol spritz afternoons in waterfront bars, ascending to lofty viewpoints by funicular; leisurely lakeside days set the tone of this holiday just right. There’s rustic charm in family-run trattorias where saffron risotto and home-made ice cream are served up as authentically as the atmosphere, and private wine tastings in an historic castle in Bergamo.

Trip notes

Lagoon exclusive

Alongside the generous number of days exploring the gondola-studded waterways of Venice, your cruise sets aside some time in corners of the region, like Mazzorbo and Chiogga, that the city crowds don’t reach. And even better, you’ll be on S.S. La Venezia, the only luxury ship permitted to sail on the lagoon. This is a true one-of-a-kind experience that very few people get to do.

Trip notes

It’s all included

Uniworld believe that everything you could ever need should be included. And this goes way beyond your daily meals; premium wine, beer and spirits will be free flowing, exquisite farm-to-table dining is the norm and there’s a choice of excursions at every port. Even the gratuities are taken care of. The only thing you’ll ever need to reach for your purse for is a spa treatment (or two).

Trip notes

After your cruise

Once you’ve left the S.S. La Venezia, opt for a few more days of Venetian wonder, or head inland to Verona where there’s romance by the bucketloads. If you’d rather start with the cruise and then slow the pace lakeside, you can flip the order of your holiday. Then there’s the possibility of doing back-to-back cruises pairing this holiday with an Adriatic adventure with Silversea.

Days 1 to 3

Lake Como

Begin with a trio of nights by the dazzling Lake Como. You can hike hilly trails, wander cobbled streets, dip into cafés, explore villas where counts, marquesses and leaders of industry lived, and take to the rails for a jaw-dropping train journey into the mountains.

Day 4

Venice

Travel to Venice where you’ll meet the S. S. La Venezia, the only luxury cruise ship allowed on Venice Lagoon.

Day 5

Venice

Your first full day in Venice is a special one – you’ll get to take a walk through the city, visit Doge’s Palace early in the morning before it even opens to the public, and stroll through the Castello, the least touristy of the city’s six districts. Once the sun has set, you’ll get an exclusive after-hours tour of Saint Mark’s Basilica (visit dependent on functions at the basilica).

Day 6

Padua or Vincenza & Burano

The focus shifts to a couple of Veneto’s towns. You can pick between Vincenza, with its show-stopping Teatro Olympico, or Padua, a university town where the likes of Galileo and Copernicus taught or studied.

Day 7

Northern Venice Lagoon

The snazzy fisherman’s houses of the islands in the upper lagoon will grab your attention today. First up is bijou Torcello which was once the most populated island in the lagoon. It’s now largely rural and home to the oldest building in the entire lagoon: the Church of Santa Maria Assunta. After lunch, there’s some free time to roam the streets of Burano or watch a glass-blowing demo on Murano.

Day 8

Chioggia

From north to south: today you’ll sail down to coastal Chioggia. This town is like a little Venice – and one that feels more authentically Italian. Fancy a trip on a traditional sailing boat to a stunner of a Venetian villa? A market exploration? Or an active ‘Let’s Go’ bike ride along some pretty beaches? All are on offer and included.

Day 9

Venice

There are even more exciting experiences on offer today: you can set off on a two-hour long sailing trip through the biodiverse wetlands of the Po River delta or take the chance to see Castello del Catajo, one of Italy’s finest castles.

Day 10

Venice

It’s back to the city today. You can take the day as it comes or pick from one of the optional trips. There’s a dawn visit to the chilled and unpretentious Dorsoduro district and a ‘Do as the Locals Do’ excursion to the Rialto markets (near the famous bridge) and a nearby bar for happy hour. Alternatively, you can give rowing like a gondolier a go during a ‘Make Travel Matter®’ excursion led by Row Venice.

Day 11

Venice

Leave the S. S. La Venezia and start dreaming about the next adventure.
