Relais & Chateaux wilderness lodge on the coast of mainland British Columbia.

At this hidden-away lodge, which is set among dense forests and the azure waters of the Inside Passage, approx. 1 hour 15 minutes from Campbell River, the emphasis is on getting away from it all and taking the time to unwind. For outdoor enthusiasts, it’s really a case of taking your pick from the abundant activities on offer. Go hiking (with a guide or independently) to the beautiful Florence Lake and beyond, tee off at the nearby award-winning 18-hole Storey Creek golf course, or try your hand at salmon fishing. For a real adventure, kayaking, helicopter, grizzly bear and whale-watching excursions can all be arranged.

Dining at the resort is an excellent experience; the daily changing menu offers superb European classics created with carefully sourced local ingredients. Choose between the chef’s gourmet tasting menu or à la carte offerings that include the likes of wild Chinook salmon, 30-day aged rib-eye, and foraged greens. There’s also an extensive wine cellar to keep connoisseurs happy. Then, at the end of the day, sink into one of the plush chairs at the home movie theatre and watch a big-screen classic.

For something a little more indulgent, the world class Island Currents Spa has six private treatment suites, a waterfall cascading down a natural rock surface, and warm outdoor mineral pools overlooking the ocean. Indoors, there’s also a new glass conservatory – the ideal spot for enjoying a warming herbal tea or cold glass of wine.
