Amazing hotel, amazing staff!
My husband and I recently spent 8 nights at the Dwarika. This is honestly one of the most beautiful hotels we've ever stayed at with genuinely one of the best staffs we've ever experienced. A much delayed trip to Kathmandu, (thanks to COVID :-( was rewarded with many wonderful experiences, enhanced by this amazing hotel. The hotel itself is a preservation of amazing Newari architecture thanks to Mr. Dwarika Das Shrestha who rescued, documented, and restored numerous wooden Newari artifacts. I think some family members actually still live onsite. I can't say enough about the front desk staff, the Toran breakfast staff, housekeeping, Krishnapan, and Fusion restaurant and bar staff. So welcoming, so attentive, so professional, and so friendly. The front desk staff was incredibly attentive and their attention to detail was amazing. We felt like they actually knew us. After a few mornings, the breakfast staff greeted us like old friends and recognized that my husband and I would have three cups of coffee while reading the Kathmandu news, and just as one cup was finished, they'd appear with another cup! The Krishnapan tasting experience is one you shouldn't miss. We actually ate here twice - the food was just lovely. My husband did 9 courses non-veg and I did 6 courses veg the first time and the second time, they mixed up the menu so we could try something different. Delicious and sophisticated Nepali cuisine. Both of our rooms were fantastic (we stayed for 5 nights, flew to Pokhara, then came back for another 3 nights). First room was a junior suite and second room was a heritage executive suite. Both so spacious and beautifully appointed. The housekeeping staff did an amazing job every morning, plus turn down service. The property itself is a peaceful retreat away from busy Kathmandu. Beautiful landscaping, a quite library, a spacious bar and restaurant. We tried to enjoy as much of the different spaces as we could. The bartender and the Fusion staff were outstanding! My husband actually got a real martini (which is sometimes a challenge in another country). The Dwarika really enhanced our Nepal experience. I just smile every time I think about our stay.
Very beautiful vista - but minor concerns for 5 stars
Dwarika is a very beautiful hotel. It is unique in that it showcases many exquisite restored Nepali woodworking pieces, and the entirety of the hotel is picturesque and instagrammable. We received excellent service from the hotel staff - especially one of the receptionist trainees (that’s what it says on his badge); he was exceptionally attentive and had an enthusiastic demeanor. Bartender and drinks were also exceptional. On the down-side, we believe to have gotten sick from the room service meals. We believe this because we received room service twice and got sick the morning after. But we can’t exclude it could have been other sources - though unlikely to happen twice from different places. Last, there were too many mosquitos and small spiders; so the place needs a bit better pest control. Overall, we this is definitely the best hotel we stayed at in Kathmandu (we stayed at 3 different).
Lovely hotel, I stayed as part of a holiday tour. I arrived a day earlier then the rest of the group and I felt completely at home. Lovely surroundings - splendid room and good food. The facilities are good too. The staff were very friendly and attentive.
Juna’s & Nitish Engagement
Raunak ji! Thank you for making our engagement ceremony a memorable night 👏 The service you arranged and provided us was greatly appreciated. You’re one of the best Manager who’s very good skill about managing both customer and staff I have ever experienced in my career. Your valued involvement on our big day will be always thankful. Also, looking forward to see you again in future.
Golden Standard of Kathmandu
Perhaps there are "fancier" hotels within Kathmandu, but the Dwarika's has more character & soul than any of those "fancier" accommodations. This place is 75% 5-star hotel and 25% must-see museum! Dwarika Das Shrestha had quite the vision with this place... It is a one of a kind stay within the bustling city of Kathmandu and I would not considering staying anywhere else on future visits to Nepal. The attention to detail throughout the property is incredibly unique... the staff does a remarkable job in every respect... and the breakfast is 5/5. The rooms are impeccably clean and their house-keeping team does as good of a job as I've ever seen to keep them that way. The only two negatives I could find were the prices on laundry seemed a bit steep (as they often are at higher end hotels), however, I was able to walk about 3 minutes down the road to a local laundromat where everything was cleaned perfectly for a few dollars (highly recommend this location, which is next to Bajeko Sekuwa Battisputali... I was unable to find the actual name during my google searching)... my only other complaint is the lack of flexibility on a later check-out, when the hotel appeared to be at 1/4 capacity. Those two things do not do anything to diminish our fantastic stay... Lastly, for those of you with any pandemic concerns lingering... the COVID safety standard at Dwarika's is top notch... (as is the majority of Nepal, to be honest). I have not seen a hotel in the US/UK that compares to the lengths taken by the Dwarika's.
